IR.ecU Science is so important to the future of the world. Students need to be aware of not only their own bodies and immediate environment, but also the entire world’s environment and what they can do to improve it. Here at St. Alphonsus, the science department allows the opportunity for the students to achieve this goal. Hands on experiences in the lab rooms makes the learn- ing process different from a regular lecture. Students gather information from various experiments and apply these results to other related projects. The teachers hope the students will have the ability to reason, think through a problem and communicate their ideas. Mrs. Eleanor Jones, B.S., M.Ed. Westhampton College of University of Richmond. 4Ccae Wct i t e Sfitnit Learning from the past, guiding for the present and planning for the future — this is the three-fold function of the Catholic religion in the world today, and the role played by parochial schools in carrying out this function is an important one. Throughout the four years of high school, religion classes broaden the minds and open the minds and the hearts of St. Alphonsus’ students through courses which show that the history of the Church is the history of man, his successes and his failures. Ap- preciative students put these years to good use; for questioning minds are never discouraged and pro- blems need never go unsolved if one is willing to ac- cept the counseling of a qualified instructor. The students are also given an overall view of the Catholic Church, the sweeping changes being made in its liturgy, and its position on crucial current events. The combination of Mass and prayer brings a feeling of excitement to this important subject. Sister Rose Margaret, O.P., B.A., M.S. Siena Heights. DePauI, U of M.
