Well we encourage you to take French or Spanish. This department provides each student with the opportunity to learn a foreign language, not only for personal enrichment, but also to meet the demands of knowing and being able to communicate in other languages. It is the aim of the language department to have each student develop the four skills of reading, writing, understanding and speaking the target language. Our foreign language teachers hope that the students of St. Al’s will use the language of their choice with ease and fluency. Ms. Rheault introduces special projects such as attending French art exhibits. Mrs. Stepien hopes to bring about discipline in learn- ing a foreign language, while Mr. Teahan wants the students to live the language and appreciate its culture. It is possible for the students to achieve these goals with the guidance from our faculty and self determination. Mrs. Marissa Stepien, B.A., M.A. University of Detroit, U of M. Spanish 19

IR.ecU Science is so important to the future of the world. Students need to be aware of not only their own bodies and immediate environment, but also the entire world’s environment and what they can do to improve it. Here at St. Alphonsus, the science department allows the opportunity for the students to achieve this goal. Hands on experiences in the lab rooms makes the learn- ing process different from a regular lecture. Students gather information from various experiments and apply these results to other related projects. The teachers hope the students will have the ability to reason, think through a problem and communicate their ideas. Mrs. Eleanor Jones, B.S., M.Ed. Westhampton College of University of Richmond.
