1982 ARROW ST. ALPHONSUS H.S. 7265 CALHOUN DEARBORN. MI 48126 VOLUME XVIII IT IS UP TO US TO DECIDE WHICH PATHS TO FOLLOW .'SLfllPHONSUS ARROWS SCHOOL 8 The 1982 Arrow is dedicated to a group of people who serve, not only here at St. Alphonsus but all over the world — The Adrian Dominican Sisters. This amazing group of people has dedicated itself to this community for a number of years — years in which the school has prospered due to their unending love for their mission. Serving in a number of capacities, these Sisters are an important part of the staff of St. Alphonsus High School. It is true that we learn from their teachings, but more importantly, we grow through their example. Therefore, we dedicate this book to them. The symbol above is the symbol of the Adrian Dominican Order. It symbolizes a wedge of light shining through an immense darkness. This light, one that shines through their work, is a great asset to our lives. This sign is an appropriate representation of their order. We. the Yearbook staff, feel it is more than appropriate to dedicate the 1982 Arrow to this group of women. Our prayers go with them in their endeavors to serve. Please accept our thanks for your love. ACTIVITIES io I. Arrow fans show their spirit and enthusiasm during a game. 2. Kitty Kieffer helps serve up the pitta. 3. Choral sings their hearts out. 4. Mr. O’Donnell invested the Senior Class officers and delegates in their robes, and the Seniors were formally introduced as the Class of 1982. The most important part of the Ring Day Mass was the blessings of the rings. This act symbolized the unity the Seniors then had as the leaders of the school. After the Mass, the Sophomores put on a breakfast for the Seniors, and Sophomore President Kenny Kotlarczyk gave a speech reminding the Seniors of the past three years. Jim Donley and Cheryl Jewell portray people from the twenties. 20 This year’s musical. “Mame.,f made many remember the glorious days of the “roaring twenties ”. Scenes of flappers, speakeasies, southern bells and many others made each and every member of the audience feel a part of the show. Flappers and gangsters were a common sight in the show, enjoying a dance in a speakeasy. At one point, the gym represented a southern plantation filled with the sounds of southern charm and hospitality. Many of the kids in the show forgot their roles as high school students and represented different characters expressing great acting abilities. By the finale. Mame had charmed her way into the hearts of all watching the show. Many hard hours of practice during the week, at night and on the weekends proved to be worthwhile. The cast created a show too exciting and enjoyable to forget. They put forth great effort in making the audience forget their troubles for a couple hours and be lost in a wonderful musical. Many thanks go to Mr. and Mrs. Maci, Mr. Dixon. Ms. van Valzah. Mr. Marusich. and Mr. Sergus for their hard work and dedication. Also, thanks go to all those who worked behind the scenes to get the show ready for performance. With all the sources combined, it was one memorable musical not easy to forget!!!! 21 High Voltage 23 FIRST ROW: E. Blair. J. Lopez. K. Kotlarczyk. T. Masley. SECOND ROW: Q. Butler. M. Rosbury. S. Secretary: Diane Karas, and Public Relations: Cindy Mattes and Cheryl Jewell. The Pep Club has many duties to perform throughout the year. The poster's and signs are a clear example of the Pep Club's loyal devotion to the athletes. Second, the organization of a pep rally is vital to every school. At a pep rally, the players and students are fired up for the upcoming game. Many events are scheduled which show the spirit of every member of the student body. The pep rally encourages many to attend the games and show their devotion to their team. Third, the Pep Club sells buttons and other pep- paraphernalia. Numerous deadlines, that seemed beyond our reach, faced a new Yearbook Staff. To our surprise, we stayed ahead of our first two deadlines thanks to the guidance of our Moderator, Mr. Donald Dixon. I certainly did not realize how important team work would mean to our deadlines. Our theme “signs”, which the staff chose to work with, is very symbolic of our daily lives as students and the restrictions accompanying all of the fun. We felt we could make our layouts funny and different, but relating to school and the lives of the four classes of students. It would certainly be difficult to recall all of those who played a role in helping with the 82 ARROW, but these people, have played a tremendous role: Mr. O’Donnell and Mr. Behn for their support, Walsworth Publishing Co. for bearing with us and helping our book in format and content. Craine’s Studios and Fr. Dave Ross for their photos which came in handy for various layouts. We would also like to thank the businesses, individuals, and parents who supported the Yearbook through Ads and Patrons. As the Senior Class looks back at it’s four years of high school. I'm sure they have had many exciting times and the Yearbook is one way of capturing these memories. Although we will go our separate ways, our unity will forever exist in the 1982 ARROW.
