Males Get Involved In Home Ee. Do you know how to bake an upside-down pineapple cake or change a baby's diaper? If you were living alone would you know how to survive? Well, the stu- dents in the Home Ec. department know all this and more. Some of the classes offered were Human Relations, Child Devel- opment, Foods, Clothes, Interior Design, Inde- pendent Living and HERO. These classes weren't just opened to girls. There were many males attending these courses. Mrs. Sara Sweeney, head of department, stated that, It's just as important for males to learn what females do. Independent Living was a course started about nine years ago especially for guys by the student body presi- dent, Denny Denem- pont. In 1972 it was called Bachelor Sur- vival. But because of discrimination laws it had to be opened to girls. Thus, the name was changed to Inde- pendent Living. 1. Mrs. Reidt answers her students' questions. 2.
