COMMA DING OFFICER Commander George P. Brown 'Swv 5' Commander George P. Brown, USN, entered the Navy in January of 1954 as an Ensign after graduating from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1955. His Cafll' Sea assignments included duty aboard the destroyer HARDWOOD CDDB--86U,the ammunition ship VESUVIUS CAE-155, the amphibious ship TIOGA COUNTY CLST-11585 and Command of the minesweeper ENHANCE KMSO-4373. Commander Brown attended the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California, and has served ashore as Weapons Instructor at Officer's Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and as a Scientific Officer in the Office of Naval Research, Washingwfl, D.C. Recently, Commander Brown served a tour aboard the amphibious ship DUBUQUE CLPD-85 as Executive Officer and, immediately prior to his present assignment as Com- manding Officer of SAGINAW, he graduated from the Army War College at Carlisle, Penn- sylvania. Commander Brown was born in Oceanside, Long Island, New York, on the 1831 of August, 1930. He is married to the former Miss joan Carol Bentz of North Bergen, New Jersey. Commander and Mrs. Brown currently make their home in Virginia Beach, Vifgillil, with their four children: Thomas, David, Janice, and Sharon. i
