Soul Choir Sings The famous Saginaw High Soul Choir had another fabulous year which included a successful tour of the East Coast, the cutting of their second record album, as well as many perfor- mances at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Mrs. Marian McKinnie was again delighted with the fine group of singers she had the pleasure to work with this past year. The group was selected for many honors and was in great demand. None of the members of the Soul Choir will ever forget the great experience of being part of one of Saginaw High's most suc- cessful organizations. Each must look back now and be proud to be a Trojan. ABOVE: Jackie Brown and Nernida Casey perform the music of the twenties. TOP RIGHT: Fred Fife and Angela Brown sing a duet at an assembly. Poets Preston Wilcox and Don L. Lee read their works and spoke to students about pride and the black experience. The Kuumba Actors presented ‘Five on the Black Hand Side dealing with the trials of a black family. Of course the Saginaw High Soul Choir performed for the student body as well as for the PTSA and all the elementary schools. ‘The Black Man and His Music gave a fabulous account of black perfor- mers and black music which is so much a part of the black heritage. Few will forget the lessons we learned about our past and of our present Also as part of the observation Saginaw High Students competed in the areas of Forensics, Art and a Black History Exam.
