The library helpers do such jobs as straighten shelves, check out material, put magazines together, а а а у other work that librarians see fit. SSC helpers also perform little tasks. For instances, they run errands, take phone calls, type, and any- thing else that would keep the center running smoothly. Each class prepared and presented its own special contribution. The Seniors sang a very timely and inspirational song and presented the reading of a creative poem by its author, Daryl Reynolds. The Juniors had Ms. Renee Smith as their guest speaker from Delta College. She presented a very fervent readings of several poems by female authors. The members of the team were Ken Valley, Ken Maliszewski, Brian Hohisel, Bill Forge, Jody Forge, Bruce Johnson, Darrel Beyers, Keith Williams, Don Dudek, Carlos DeLeon, Ken Duby, David Vasquez, and Mark Poineau. x TRACK TRACK TEAM (1973-74) Coming off a very successful 1973 track year; whereas Saginaw High reigned as Class A Track and Field State Champs, the Trojans were in the process of rebuilding during the 1974 season. | There were many bright spots ї the performance of SHS trackmen. The 1974 team won 3 dual meets | which were more than it has during the two pre- | vious seasons when the Trojans were State Run- | ner-ups (1972) and State Champs (1973). Thus, this | was indicative of the fact that the 1974 team and | greater all- around performance or balance, but didn't have such stellar athletes as Reggie Jones, | Bob Chapman, Willie Dawkins, and Larry Brad- | | shaw. The former were all lost due to graduation. | The Trojans sprint relays (440 and 880) proved to | | be very tough, for they recorded the best times in the county and both teams qualified and placed in the state meet. hold-overs from last year's team who will be counted heavy upon in the sprint races this com- ing season. BASEBALL 74 The five victories which Saginaw High’s baseball team won last year represents the most baseball victories in five years. The team still has a long way to go before it will become a contender for the championship. How- ever, the strides which have been made over the last couple of years indicate that the program is on the up swing. Last year’s record of 5 wins and 11 loses could be im- proved upon this year if the pitching proves to be ade- quate. “We got good performances from many of our players last year,” commented Mr. Hunt, “those deserving special recognition include Tom Thornton, Randy Al- pin, Issac Reeves, and Tony Gnotec.” Varsity Baseball Team, BACK ROW,L to R: Darrell Reynolds, Jim Schmidt, Julio Rodri Connie Reeves, FRONT ROW, L to R: Coach Hunt, Ricky Cirillo, Issaac Reeves, Tom Thornton, Glend ez, Esper Williams, Dave Walters, (Mgr.) quez, Randy Alpin, Charles Troublefield, Tony Gnotek, ale Robinson, Larry Williams, David Per- JE ae E Junior Varsity Baseball Team, BACK ROW, L TO R: Bill Ugartechea, Roy Buck, Paul Donald, Anthony Lenoir, Coach E. Along with this fine record, two honors were achieved. (1) They won the Junior Varsity Champi- onship for the Eastern half of the Saginaw Valley. (2) They brought the Little Brown Jug back to Saginaw High (The Jug is symbolic of the City's Junior Varisty Champions.). Coach Pat Marcogliese and Coach Ostrander Lane were very happy and proud of the way these young men performed. The team was held together by the ”PRIDE AND UNITY” these young men exhibited among themselves and the coaching staff. It is im- possible to predict just how well the Junior Varsity players will do on varsity level competition in these next two years at Saginaw High. If they continue with the attitude and enthusiasm that they exhibited during this past Football season, it would be very dif- ficult to deny them success on the Varsity level. The world literature class is involved in writing their own short stories and plays after reading a number of short stories and plays from various countries. Saginaw High established an equipped read- ing laboratory to help students attain growth in vocabulary, comprehension and im- proved reading skills. There are also many different kinds of literature classes all deal- ing with that particular people’s writings. College writing prepares students for writ- ing in college. Creative writing allows the student to let his imagination run wild. Dra- ma gives the student some practice on stage to prepare him for an acting career. At present, we tend to lean toward students, but, hopefully, in the future the lab can become a credit course for interested stu- dents at S.H.S. JOURNALISM This year’s Journalism classes have a new in- structor Mr. Patsy Procuro. Mr. Procuro re- placed Mrs. Diane Shimpke, who left at the beginning of the school year. The Journalism Department has three new classes, Newspaper, Journalism I, and Jour- nalism ll. The Newspaper class which puts out the Times has a larger paper and new print. An- other change is in the name. The old Stu- dent Lantern is now the Saginaw High Times. SOCIALSTUDIES The Social Studies Department at Saginaw High was developed to give each student a variety of topics to choose from. For example there are four different American History classes in which a student may choose oneor all four. 4 In taking a Social Studies class, a student has not only på the opportunity to find out when or where some- thing happened, but is also encouraged to keep up with whats going on at the present time. Ke 可 SCIENCE Physics and physical science became a separate department in 74-75 school year. Projects within the department were centered on a microscope. The students were involved in locating various objects. Science like all fields is a direct a part of our envi- ronment and should be appreciated in the roll of the teacher to open up the doors for the student and help them see how science relates to their every day lives. 137 АКТ Don't draw а у conclusions.
