Girl Blue is the story of a young woman, played by Audrey Aldridge, who is blue because she can't feel the Christmas spirit. Her Fairy godfather, played by Jerry Silbas, rescues her and takes her to different scenes where she can feel the spirit. Among these scenes was soulville, which fea- tured the SHS soul choir. The choirs that participated in pageant were, the Acapella choir, Mixed Chorus, Girls' Ensemble and the Soul Choir. | SHS Student Council Sponsors Student Government Day Student Government day was observed by turning the tables. On that day students took over the positions of administrators, teachers, counselors, and para- professionals. To top off the days activities, a banquet was given by the student council for all partici- pants in the day’s activities. After everyone was full, students and teachers were put on the spot and were asked to give their reactions to what went on that day. Many students said that after being the teacher for one day, they could understand how teachers feel, and the same remarks were made by some teachers. In the pictures to the left and the bottom of the page we see various students and teachers enjoying their dinners. DE =. The squad was relatively young, hav- ing four juniors and only two se- niors. They were also under the leadership of a new coach, Mrs. J. Foster, who was once a cheer- leader here at SHS. The Squad practiced everyday for two hours after school and also cheered for all home and away basketball and football games. During the Foot- ball season, the wind on those cold winter nights was cold but the girls were still out there. They remedied the problem of cold knees by wearing pants. This year the cheerleaders also put on a half time show for one of the home basketball games. The show was a combination of danc- ing, gymnastics, stunts off of the minitrampoline and stunts off of the large trampoline. This years squad is shown left to right, KNEELING: Lisa Lindsay, Jackie McFarland, Captain, STANDING: Billie Sue Chaffer, Kai Bailey, Barbara Morton, co-captain and Cheryl Mitchell. This was supposed to have been an off year for Trojan basketball. With only one starter coming back from last year the odds would seem to be against our team. But our team has beat the odds. They showed other teams that they have played that they will not live in the legend of last year’s team but create their own. The mighty Trojans opened their season with a thrilling come from behind victory against Pontiac Central. The Chiefs were the first to taste the bitter fruit of defeat that was given to them by the vine. As of February, the Trojans are rated number two in the state and still undefeated. We are looking forward to district regional, and state tournaments, and fell confident that S.H.S. will once again be an apt contender for the Class A state champion- ship. Among these classes are Ameri- can History. This class is a re- quirement for all persons expect- ing to graduate from Saginaw High School. This class is required because educators feel that stu- dents graduating from high school and going on to either work or higher education should know something about the histo- ry of the country they live in. With the knowledge of this country’s history, it is hoped that students will understand why our country is like it is today. Also if they know the mistakes of history they may be less prone to make those same mistakes. Black literature is another favorite class of this years Junior class. Stu- dents read materials about many famous black people, fiction about black people, fiction about black people and many works by such great Afro-American writers as Countee Cullen and Langston Hughes. 150 u { 4 a.
