During the month there were many other activities here including a Soul Food Dinner. To close out Black History month over 50 students from Saginaw High presented a Black History play. The play was entitled, “Unsung Black Heroes. The students did a very fine job of portraying the lives of Black heroes of the past and present. 20 21 Martin Luther King Service Center Dedication Mr. Nuckolls, guides Dr. Martin Luther King Sr., speaker for the dedication, on a tour of the Martin Luther King Student Service Center. CLUBS The school year 1971-72 has seen more clubs than ever before in the history of Saginaw High School. They are as wide and varied as the interests of our students. There's something for everyone. These clubs have provided the school activities, boosted school spirit, and added cultural enrichment to our school environment. The AFRO-AMERICAN CLUB has boosted school spirit by chartering buses to the away games for students, aided the community by helping the Sickle Cell Anemia Drive, and provided activities for the student body by recommending groups to perform before the student body and co-ordinating the 1972 Black History Week Program. The TRAVEL CLUB has selected places for student trips, raised money for these trips, and is trying to get reduced rates for students in order to take these trips. Tentative trips for spring are to Washington D.C., and the Bahamas. The STUDENT COUNCIL is composed of officers and representatives from each class and also one representative from each club. This unit is the main co-ordinator of student activities at SHS. These officers and representatives are the administrative body of the student body. If you happened to see a group of students sitting in the stands cheering their heads off, you saw the BLEACHER BUMS in action. This club was a tremendous help in spurring school spirit. They were there for the home and the away games to urge our Trojans on. The CO-OP CLUB is organized to provide students with the knowledge of jobs and job opportunities. They have speak- ers come in and discuss the aspects of a job. The area delegate represents SHS in the Valley CO-OP Club. Each year ends with a CO-OP Banquet. The major goal of the MEXICAN GRADUATES CLUB is to uplift Mexican Americans and to raise money for a scholarship for a Mexican American student. SENIOR SERVICE CORPS — This group of young men have done a wonderful job of promoting peace in the school by mingling and rapping to the students and by maintaining order at SHS student activities. It's off to the slopes!! The SKI CLUB has provided a winter energy outlet for SHS students by sponsoring trips to the slopes to enjoy the Michigan Winter Wonderland. 37 Publications Aurora: Debbie Adams, Darlene Tausend, Mittie Buchanan, Jackie McFarland, Gilbert Gomez, Gregory Wilson.
