NEW FACES IN FOOTBALL A New Century Brings A New Look To Varsity Gridiron Saginaw High Varsity Football squad took on a new look this season with the appearance of head coach Claude Marsh, backfield coach Oarie Lemanski, and defensive coach Joseph Etienne, Although Saginaw High only earned aninth place standing in the Valley League, the Trojans ability to yield only after a hard fight is displayed in the fact that in the first five games Saginaw High lost by a meager total of twenty-nine points, Coach Marsh’s attempts at rebuilding a new tea m were not futile, as Saginaw High’s defensive team displayed great strength throughout the season while the offensive lineup went through a series of adjust- ments to discover new offensive talent, Saginaw High’s only win was over Douglas MacArthur (19-6) in a non-conference game. Their losses were to Midland (12-6), Flint Northern (14-12), Bay City Handy (7-0), Pontiac Central (6-0), Flint Southwestern (21-13), Flint Central (27-7), and Bay City Central (40-0), The other loss was a heartbreaker to Arthur Hill (12-6) in an intense storm, Above: Herb Riley was awarded Saginaw High’s “Top Head- buster” award for his outstanding work as a defensive end, Riley also received an honorable mention in Saginaw Valley standings, Trojans and Chiefs both scramble for a loose ball battered out of the hands of Marshall Thomas (44), Rushing in on the left to cover the fumble is Brian Forbes (20).
