DONNA GRAEBNER HOME ECONOMICS Does anyone remember the cooking classes of the past? Remember the room with the circle of two burner gas stoves? A semester spent there and girls came out with a notebook filled with tried recipies, fmost of them tried in another kit- chen - not the school cooking roomj. Sewing was the companion class to cooking and the main project for the second semester was to complete that dress begun during the first. Homemaking has taken the place of these classes. While food preparation and preservation and clothing in- struction still have their place in the program, the whole array of homemaking problems are sur- veyed with the eye to giving the young homemaker a well-rounded backgroundn vm f .L vii i ,pwm Kewl tf13e'X H twwyaiwqk a'3 g , -' gg yfit fi ' I ,: '- ff-ff.,7' ' Q f an E '53, H K l x. The teacher was Franz Dreier, brought from Ger- many by the Germania Club. Each year they put on exhibitions in which all the boys took part. Mr. Dreier was the football coach, without any experience, until 1928 when a young man just out of college took over. There had been swimming at the old Saginaw High until the water was declared unclear. The pool was then covered up, and the girls had their gym classes on the floor which covered The pool. Part of the art of driving lies under the hood. After all, when the motor stops, you have to know What to tap to get it going again. Driver Ed. teacher Don Speer here explains to an interested group of trainees what those gadgets are for. fi F 1 l tgguej, H1232 21

BUSINESS EIDUCATICDN Many changes have taken place in the business department of the modern school. Still popular are the older courses which are necessary to an understanding ofcfood business prac- tice - shorthan and bookkeeping. If a graduate of 1898 were to re- turn to school today, however, he would be amazed to see students on their way to work at noon on the popular co-op program which gives credit for school through on-the-job experience. He would see confident people, ready to take their place in the society which is called America - and we think he would approve.
