SOCIAL SCIENCE The history department came into existance in 1867 featuring popular classes such as the History of the Stars. As years went on courses were added and included economics, govern- ment, and modern history. By this time the department had pretty well been established and Miss Macy Kitchen, a grad- uate of Saginaw High of 1893 was appointed head of the dep- artment. She was later named Distinguished Alumnus for her outstanding work in the department. SCIENCE MATHEMATICS Throughout the years, Saginaw High has offered the same complete curriculum of science and math courses, from biology, chemistry and physics, to algebra, geometry and trigonometry. However with the dropping of the atomic bomb in 1945 an the advent of the stellar sattellite, the empha- sis has largely been shiftedto interest stu- dents in the study of space and atoms for peace.
