LANGUAGES ARTS CRAFTS While arts and crafts have been increasing by leaps and bounds, the language department hasn't expanded: on the contrary, some languages which were present years ago have been discontinued. One such course, German, came to an abrupt halt during World War I, when all German textbooks were burned publicly and German teachers fired. However, plans to include the long neglected class have been made for next year, and a Russian course is expected for the near future. Such an addition will classify Saginaw High as one of the first U. S. schools to include Russian. ff Z, V! All af f,,, 'E I X 'fWW'LZ! . ' J ,ff' ZZ, Q, 7 ,,gl V,YUtfk, ',f V Z? Saginaw High came into existance with few class- es along this line. Shops were not introduced until the turn of the century and there were two general art classes offering only painting and drawing. Now, however, students can take advan- tage of general shops, welding, drafting and mechinical drawing, and the art curriculum has added such courses as commercial art, general art, and costume designing. Sophomores learn the Sparks fly as welding students Eric Stammen, Paul Krauseneck, and Herman Watkins become fam- iliar with the cutting torch. At right, Mr. Tomsich gives suggestions.
