LANGUAGE ARTS Nowhere in the curriculum have so many changes taken place as have taken place in the English lesson. Gone are the stilted phrases so often memorized and recited over and over again with just the right inflection. Gone is the English rhetoric fgrammar, todayj which led to endless parsing of sentences and pages of carefully out- lined and diagramed phrases. Today's trend, led on by the miracle of radio and television, audio type agencies, is toward the freedom of self- expressiong the extemporaneous speech, radio speech, and up-to-the-minute talks, carefully written by the student himself for the occasion at hand.
