While this ceremony was impressive in itself, there was an underlying theme which should not be forgotten. That theme was initiated years ago with the first attempts to replace the many out of date school buildings which had become a part of the Saginaw scene. It was carried into action by those education minded individuals who led the great effort to have these antiquated schools replaced with modern structures, and came to a climax with the students themSelves who canvassed the entire city to bring to the people of Saginaw the desperate need for better educational facilities for this rapidly growing city. The building which we dedicated on this occasion is just one of the many adjustments which have been started in the school building program for Saginawo It is to those students who led the drive for the new school, even though they themselves could not get to enjoy its advantages, to those parents who felt so keenly the need for better educational facilities for their children and the children of Saginaw that they willingly passed legislation to secure the necessary funds for new school buildings, to the business men, professional men, the factory worker, and the housewife whose interest inpublic education made possible this beautiful new high school, that we dedicated the 1955 Aurora. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord'forever. Intermingled will be seen the men who have helped, you to retain in this way your high school days--O UR A D VE R T ISE R S. A Dream Come True. . .. On September 7, 1954, about 1900 Trojans entered their new home for the first time. The first days were spent in happy wonder, and if you please, wandering around, trying to find the classes to Which they had been assigned during the summer, There were many new things to see and many conveniences which we had never had before. Before long we found that school was still school and the teachers were relentlessly trying to impart knowledge as before, But somehow learning seemed a bit easier, and a little more fun. On the following pages we will take you on a little journey through the new building. We hope you will enjoy your trip and take a few memories with you. Shall we start? . . . . o 0 One of the memorable occasions in the minds of all Trojans is the ground breaking for the new Saginaw High on July 25, 1951. Mr., Leesch dug the first shovel full of ground starting the excavation for the footings of our school. Mr. Miller and other members ofthe Board of Education tookpart.
