aalminixira tion Principal S. H. Lyirle, Bonnie Richir Wtirkitig with high school girls and boys is an inspiration in itself. To have a pilff in their plans and an influence in their decisions may involve responsibilities greater than one realizes at the time. However. along with this responsibility comes the satisfaction of having contributed something-some times infinitesimal F- again something much greaterg for who can measure the effect of an encouraging conference. assistance in an evaluation of plans, a reprimand or even some diciplinary measure? The permanent oliice record of a pupil is a picture of the school life of that person and is an accurate and valuable rccord for all time. Scanning these records gives one the feeling that the American boys and girls are intelligent, happy, willing to work, and capable of handling their futures. Sincerely, cMRs.1 MA1uoN Fimkiiiz lfegiilnzz' and Dorm of Ciirlr This oflice is always open to parents and students who need help with school programs and problems. We should like to have everyone bring school troubles to us. That is what we are here to do: help solve others' problems. The door is always open, so walk right in. We should also like very much to have people who have no problems drop in occasionally and see us. Otherwise we might never get to know you at all. Drop in anytime and get acquainted. WARD Ii. Counseling for Saginaw High School Seniors has as its objectives the development of good school citizenship and preparation for graduation and after graduation activities. This means the presentation of matters connected with the general activities of the school, as well as those more restricted to graduation. - Early in the Senior Year the counseling presents the scholastic side of graduation by considering the point standing of pupils. The level of graduation and rank in the graduating class is determined on this basis. There are three levels of graduation toward which pupils are encouraged to strive, with high honor, with honor, and with recommendation. Explanation of the gift scholarships and competitive scholarships as well as the loan scholarships is given in the Senior Year because it has been found that many have made no definite plans for furthering their education beyond high school until they have reached the Senior Year. Aside from the honors which for the most part are awarded at graduation time, and are based on character rating, scholastic standing, and participation in school activities, are an invitation to the Honor Banquet, Qshared with juniors and Sophomoresb and the D.A.R. Good Citizenship Pilgrim chosen from the Senior girls. The months prior to graduation are filled with discussion of details of graduation activities, the keeping of graduation expenses within a- reasonable limit, requirements for advanced educational work, the functions of Commencement Week, the Aurora and the Senior Play. In order to knit the various home room activities together and to get the viewpoint of various Senior groups, the four class officers are aided by the Senior Central Committee, comprised of pupils elected by the various Senior Home Rooms. By so doing the theory of Democracy is put to work. C. A. MAYXY'OOD Acting Senior Counselor Page 7 . AURORA 1949
