the student lantern Commendations are due every staff member for well-written news stories, sprightly features, and vigorous editorials, Dr. Laurence Camp- hell, critic judge, declared in announcing that Saginaw's Sfmlurt Iazzzlerrz had copped Quill LQ Scrolls International Honor ranking for the sixth consecutive year, September I7. Scoring a total of 906 out of a maximum 1,000 points, it also snagged the A for achieve- ment under the leadership of Peggy Deisig, editor-in-chief, and Pat Elliott, business man- ager. Only I7 points separated it from a perfect rating in influencing readers and entertain- ing readersu divisions. 11,411 pilgrim, '48 Capturing one of the highest honors that can be bestowed on a Saginaw High girl, SHIRLEY EDDY earned this year's D.A.R. Good Citizenship Pilgrim title by vote of the Faculty Councilor committee. Maintaining a 2.7 scholastic point standing, the Student Lantern News editor is a member of National Honor society, Thencean, Plorad, and the 1949 Aurora staff. She also tied for first place in the nation in newswriting in Quill fr Scroll and Scholastic? 1948 creative writing contests, is a Quill fr Scroll pledge, and a girl letter winner. The D.A.R. award is sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution to promote appreciation of good citizen- ship among young people. Local winners are presented the gift of a D.A.R. Pilgrim pin, attendance at a Pilgrimage luncheon at the time of the D.A.R. Michigan State conference, and mem- bership in the Martha Washington Chapter of Good Citizenship Pilgrims, a local branch of the State organization, with Mrs. Paul Krause as a special sponsor. Candidates are chosen from among three finalists chosen by Senior class vote on a basis of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.
