Also Safford s stu- dents have personal interests in many programs that Safford offers. For example Safford has an environmental classroom and computer classes Students actively participate at school by showing school spirit. School spirit is essential to Safford. Students carry school spirit every where they go. School spirit makes students proud of their school. If students are proud of their school, they will come to school more often Safford differs from other schools in many ways. Safford is the only school that is a historical monument and lies in the middle of downtown. Students at Safford are very important to Dr. Irwin. Experiences and lessons of teachers and students are shared in the classroom. These experiences and lessons lead to excellence. Dr. Irwin makes that possible by looking for new ways for instruction. Dr. Irwin has a goal for Safford. That goal is for Safford's teachers and students to be the best and strive for excellence. sk milk .-sf ,ff IVlr Dan Gastellum ASSISTANT PPINCIPAL Mr. Gastellum, Safford's assistant principal, has a busy daily schedule. He spends most of his time attending to students' problems. Just to name a few, students who aren't doing well in school, problems on the bus and keeping his busy schedule in order. Other activities of lvlr. Gastellum's include contacting por- ents, helping people who are new to Safford, assemblies, speak- ers, free lunch program, athletics and the list goes on and on. lVIr. Gastellum's favorite part of his job is the students. He loves to work with students and see them grow as individuals. He says the reason he's in education is because of the students. Mr. GastelIum's goal for the school will take time. His goals for Safford is for Safford to be the most positive school that it con be. If Safford is a positive school, it has no fights, vandalism or referrals. Then he'lI be able to spend more time in the classroom, giving students a chance for a better future. This year at Safford, there ore far less referrals, dententlons or suspensions than in the past years. lvlr. Gastellum says that he is proud of Safford. The teachers are nice, and they are willing to help you. I enjoy having fun with my friends. That's the best part of middle school.
