commg to an end It happened 1n Spa1n where there llVed a r1ch old Span 1Sh Don Th1s Don had a beautlful daughter called Carmen Carmen was 1n love w1th Juan who l1ved on the Portugese border When Don Hernandas found out about thxs he forbade hlS daughter to see Juan agam Juan was heart broken He tr1ed every wav he knew to get Don Hernan das to l1ke h1m and let h1m marry Carmen F1nally he went to the Dr1est of the pueblo and told h1m h1s pllght The prlest told h1m to leave the pueblo and return only when he told h1m to do so Three months went by by now xt was February The prlest came to see Don Hernandas at h1s hac1 enda where he gave Carmen a note and told the Don about the new hol1day that was to be Feb ruary 14th He sa1d that he W1Sl'l6d the Don to come and also brlng Carmen When the Don asked for whom the holy day had been named the prlest thought of St Valentme and Sald lt was for h1m and th1s was to be HIS day Carmen had wlth her a large heart 1n wh1ch were her clothes W1th her
