'28, National Assembly arch arch arch arch arch Better I-lssembly Conduct Urged The assemblies during the past semester have been very noisy and could be much improved by proper cooperation of all students The Assembly committee and the teachers have tried in every way possible to conduct these assem blies to the best of their ability So in the future lets settle down and give our cooperation so that we may continue to have them In the coming assemblies all students will be required to pay attention to the performance and not talk to their neighbors and to follow the following suggestions Immediately after the tardy bell all noise and conversation must come to an end Pay attention to the speaker or the person conducting the assembly Do all yelling when and only when cheerleaders ask for it During intermissrons of scenes if talking is necessary do it in a manner that will not disturb the audience If in the future these rules are followed I know that the conduct and attitude of assemblies will greatly improve I also know the students of Safford have what rt takes so lets use this ability to improve our assembly programs Assembly Chairman Tommy Naylor. Salford Hr Does Well In March Of Dimes Campaign Safford High s March of Dimes contest ended January 25th with Mr. Traws algebra class coming out on top with 32626. It seems that Mr. Traw received most 0 fthis amount through tardy students charging them 50c for being late. 3129.30 was collected from all the high school students through- out the week of the contest. The grammar school, going one more week than high school col- lected 55334. . ' . I I The annual Eastern Conference Basketball Tournamen will be held February 21 22, and 23, in the Gila J C gym 'lhis is expected to be one of the best meets held in recen years, due to the power shown by six of the eight team entered The strong teams are, in order of their conferenc standings Duncan, Safford Thatcher Miami, Clifton, an Globe Positions on the bracket will be determined by th Facully Presenls Gala Assembly It rs commonly known that there is sr great deal of talent in the Student Body that was prox ed by the Talent Assembly and rrovt tomorrow the faculty will add their bit to the hall ot lame in SHS The committee composed ol Miss Setka and Mr Wilson have not disclosed any information 'rs but making a wild guess it rnrglrt contain maybe the Faculty Quai a song by Mr T aw or short skit Eyen though it is not known l what will be in the assembly it is a positive taet that it will be something entertnning with a lit tle of the lighter side added lrert ind there aoulty Holds 4 aoe Feeding l On W ednesday. January 23 'about 60 faculty members of the Safford schools very decidedly be- lcame a few pounds heavier. How could they help it? No one could resist a supper of cold meats bak- ed beans, and potato salad with l I i all the little trimmings added tol make it just right. The party began with the sup- per but later in the evening after everyone had eaten their fill. the Home Ec. building rang not with the laughter of the students as it has so many times but with that of the faculty. Yes. it seems that the faculty is still as spry as ever 'rt ames and have much more life than students sometimes realize. The students in the Safford schools are lucky to have sueh ai swell group of teachers. past record of each team Team l and 8 will be place in the upper half of the to bracket, .3 and 6 in the lowe half of the top bracket, 2 an 7 in the upper half of the lower bracket 4 and 5 rn the lower hal of the l b One official will be chosen fro each of the three counties rn thr manner each official will have game off every third game This year there will be no all conference team Duncan Miami and Safford are rated the top contenders Grlas large court is expected to add to club Admission will be 30 cents for students 6 Ocents for adults There will be two sessions afternoon and night Starting time has not been set as yet School loaded The annual Talent Assembly went off successfully last Friday Each class had four of five clev er nummbers ready and waiting to win the prize except the seniors who had two The rumor class won the prize with a elex er telephone skit star- ring Billie Mae John and Dick Wil- liami. After the local ' talent had done their bit. Earl Gooth alumnus 'rve two excellent selections on the clarinet, the first a clissical number. the second Star Dust. Pfc. Jones asked lease of ab- -ze-nc' to go home and help his wife rrove but the Colonel said that Mrs. Jones had written not to let Jones come home because he was mr rc bother' than help.
