They could hardly be expected to uphold the record of the year before, when they lost to only two schools and qualified for the State Tournament. Their l939-40 record is given below. Une of the major events which may or may not have inspired the players this year was the changing of the school colors. Regardless of which it may have been. this item will go down as one of the most significant events in the school's history. Rising above all early season predictions, the Bulldogs started the year off right by going through a tough sevenagame grid schedule with 6 wins and l defeat to win the Eastern Conference football crown.
