JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY September, l939, found the Juniors registering for their first year as upper- classmen. The following officers were elected: Philip Mitchell. president: Marion Johnson, vice-president, Florence Mitchell, secretary and treasurer: and Melvin Burrell, class representative. In November, the first party of the year was held in the form of a hayrack ride. After the usual eats, songs were sung around the campnre. Later in the year, a class party was held in the auditorium. Basketball, vol- leyball, and other games were played. Light refreshments were served. Early in January plans were started for the Junior Prom held on February 23. Beth Pace was chosen chairman: and Reid Woodford, business manager. South of the Border was selected as the theme. lt was well carried out with a Spanish mission in the background and a solid ceiling of brightly colored balloons. -The dance was one of the most colorful events of the season. On March 20, a picnic was held at Red Knolls. Wieners, buns, and all the accessories were taken along. A very tired and dirty group of students re- turned home after exploring all the caves to be found. The Junior-Senior Banquet came next on the calendar. Stars was chosen as the theme, and the auditorium was nicely decorated. An enjoyable time was had by all who attended. After the graduation exercises, a dance was given in honor of the departing Seniors. The class Wishes to express its appreciation for the help and advice given by our sponsors. Miss Willis and Mr. Willard, in making this a very successful year. It is looking forward to completing a very pleasant four years in Safford High School next year. The Ototillo-Pa ge lhirty
