A schedule is made for students, showing them the classes they will be taking that year. Lockers are issued along with a combination that must be memorized. Teachers then distribute books and the game begins. Introduction t 3 n O .N C U .0 O r. f. n 4 The object of The Game At SHMS is to successfully complete each grade level. In order to do this students need to keep up with their homework and pay attention in class. Along with good study habits students need to attend school regularly. When students exhibit good behavior, attend school, and do well in their classes they are winning the game. Introduction i 5 HOW TO PLAY When you begin The Game At SHMS, you need to know How To Play the game. As a player, students will demonstrate skill in all areas. Rewards are given for outstanding achievement lHonor RolD, proper bus behavior lBus Incentive Programl, and good attendance lassembliesl. The skillful student will know what he has to do to win at this game. 6 l Introduction CYNL: mum SHES so UNUSUAL Introduction 7 n o .n C U d o r m 8 LUCKY DAYS When you land on a Lucky Day space you can be rewarded for a number of things. Students go on fieId trips and attend assemblies as a result of good attendance, good grades, and good behavior. Special Bus Award parties are also given to those students who behave exceptionally well on their bus, and the bus driver also is awarded a plaque. Introduction h 9 10 Introduction In every game the player runs the risk of landing on a penalty space. The skillful student needs to follow the rules of the school and remember to leave the gum at home, always walk in the halls, bring proper materials to class and arrive on time. By keeping this in mind, the student should be able to avoid those troublesome penalties. Introductione ll For some students The end of The Game means summer is approaching and another school year has gone by. For others it means that their time in Middle School is over and now they are looking on to High School and facing greater Challenges. For SHMS students the game they played was a memorable and lasting one. 12 t Introduction : 4 M Y, X - Ky v 1'. mm ,r ' . This enthusiastic group sponsored the second annual Bike Rodeo after school. The bike rodeo helps students learn good bicycle safety. This event is always a fun time for all who participate. ROLLING THROUGH THE GAME Skating parties are fun filled nights for SHMS students. The students and staff join in for two hours of skating and some of the best music in the area! Skating parties are usually held on Thursday nights from 6 to 8. Our skating parties are a lot of fun and enjoyed by all. Happenings 45 S.H.M.S. GIVES A HELPING HAND Friday, November 2 was a very special day at SHMS. Students reached out and helped a fellow student's brother. John Novak, a former SHMS student was stricken by a virus that caused him serious heart complications. Doctors determined that a heart transplant was necessary. Literally hundreds of Jackie Novak's friends filled the gym for a fund raising benefit. This outreach to help a fellow student grew to Countryside High School where the students who had performed in the Lip Syncy production volunteered some of their time to give two performances for students at SHMS. Through the generosity of students and teachers over $2000.00 was raised. 46 t Happenings A DAY OF FRIGHT Witches, Bums, Bunnies and Babies were some of the many costumes seen in the halls of SHMS on October 3lst. The annual Halloween Dance sponsored by Future Farmers of America was held from 2:30 to 4:00 in the gym. It was a great success. The costume con- test was categorized strickly by best costume in each grade level. Although there was no category, the fun- niest group of costumes seen around school was the group of boys dressed as girls. Happenings h 47 MAKING A , b t GAME OF EXPERIMENTS During the year, students in advanced Science classes are required to do a Science project. It is very hard for the judges to select the best entries, as all are well done! This year the judges selected the following winners: Gayle Brown, Kristen Jenson, Peach Weiser, Mike Woolever, Kari Childress, Holly Esch and Julie Flatter. These students entries will be entered in the county Science Fair competition. LuuzLIA DANotA ...-............ These students are learning the foreign language of a yearbook. Producing the HReflections requires a lot of time, work and money. Under the supervision of student editors, Brian Boshart and Charlotte Lewis, and advisor Mrs. Skiratko, staff members work daily in class and several days after school, and even a few weekends to meet deadlines. The end product is most gratifying for these dedicated staff members. Yea rbook h 75 REPORTING ON THE GAME The ttTotem Pole here at SHMS is the school newspaper. Future Farmers of America is for the development of leadership, citizenship and cooperation. The members participate in contests as well as learning life long skills. Besides planting and caring for new seedlings, students experience the miracle of life with the birth of a new goat and raising a pig that thinks he is a student! These FFA members are the true farmers at SHMS. Future Farmers of America h 79 SUPPLIES ARE NEEDED IN THE GAME The School Store at SHMS is operated by a group of students who spend their time advertising and selling school supplies.
