Safety Harbor Middle School 125 7th Street North Safety Harbor, Florida 33572 Volume VII 3 I f x Introduction 1 2 Introduction Here's looking at you SHMS students. Without YOU this yearbook would not be possible. This years Reflections captures YOU at your very best moments. Our focus is on you, the student, involved in your many activities in and out of school. 80 WARRIORS - HERE'S LOOKING AT YOU! Introduction i 3 Many of the smiling faces that you see around SHMS are carrying some extra hardware these days. These tin grin kids are experiencing one of the many problems of growing up. What a price they must pay for that special smile! 4 t Introduction : , Introduction l 5 As you can see, these warriors have their own special brand of warpaint. Freckles come in a variety of shapes and sizes. These students' freckles emphasize their own individuality. The only problem they seem to have is that this warpaint BHHNDED doesn't wash off. 6 IntrOduction Introduction X 7 8 Introductlon SHMS students keep up with the latest fashions . . . hair included. For many of our students. their hair is their identity. Hair styles give students the feeling of confidence and acceptance. These Warriors won't have to worry about being SCALPED. - $J W I t k N 3 Introduction i 9 10 Introduction Unfortunately, not all days turn out to be the best. In or out of school, tudents face the possibility of having a serious accident. Whether it be ootball, soccer, baseball or acting careless in PE, students can end up ith a bad sprain or a broken bone. These Warriors have had a bad break. Introduction e H If you think you're seeing double - don't be alarmed! You're probably just looking at one of the many sets of twins we have here at SHMS. These Warriors have a very unique problem. They are often mistaken for their brother or sister. 80 there's no need to have your eyes checked or your glasses cleaned, just sit back and double your pleasure. Have the layouts been drawn? Who has the camera today? Has anyone written copy? These are just a few of the things that can be heard in Ms. Daveyts 6th period yearbook class. Creating this pictorial review of the past year involves more than just pasting pictures on a page. It takes a lot of hard work, patience and dedication. Yet with all the problems and frustrations that go along with the production of a book, staff members feel it is well worth it when the book is finally produced. Yearbook t 51 Youtre at S.H.M.S. Students in photography learn how to develop pictures, use proper lighting, and how to focus a camera to make a picture look its best. Students in this class helped take pictures for the yearbook and assisted with the slide presentation in October. In the photography Class students have to create their own slide show which includes selecting a subject, taking pictures, putting the slides in order and selecting appropriate music to accompany it. 52 t Photography Network of Talent When students sit down and turn on the TV they don't realize how much hard work goes into producing a pro- gram. Our TV production students have learned that it takes many hours of hard work. The TV class provides valuable training for the students involved in production. Hard work and dedication go into the filming of S.H.M.S. broadcasts. Many of our students that are involved have realized that you need to know more than just how to look into the camera. A top priority for most S.H.M.S. students is coming prepared to class. For the few who are faced with the situation of no paper or pencils, the school store is the answer. During 6th, 7th, and 8th grade lunches many items are made available. The P.T.S.A. Student Advisory Group provides this service to students. Mrs. Skiratko, their advisor feels that this experience allows students to discover the Hworking world. . School Store i 57 A Nose for News! Mrs. Johns, the advisor, meets with this group once a month. Guest speakers come in and put on demonstrations. Students have had courses in First Aide, and CPR. These students organized White Christmas this past holiday season. By getting donations from the student body, children less fortunate were given special gifts. In the season of giving, a great deal of love went into this project. Red Cross i 59 Students Take Charge The Student Advisory Group is probably the most active group in school. By working with students, the administration, faculty, and the community, they help others enjoy and improve their education. Throughout the school year these students man the school store, sponsor a canned food drive during the holiday season, assist in orientation for new students, and sponsor a school dance. This year the group donated over $600 in the name of Safety Harbor Middle to the Statue of Liberty fund. This years efforts have proved to be a successful and beneficial part of the school year. While many students and teachers crowd onto the rink, others enjoy dancing, playing video games, and talking to their friends. You can even participate in the races or couple skate with your favorite partner. Happenings t 163 Dressing for Dollars Our Halloween dance, sponsored by the 7th grade class, brought many strange and funny costumes. Money prizes were awarded to the winners for the best all around costume. Refreshments were available and a band played throughout the dance. All in all, there was a great turnout. and the dance was a big success. 164 t Happenings Happenings 165 Music has been a major part of our students' lives here at S.H.M.S. From pop to rock, and Culture Club to Motley Crue, students enjoy a wide variety of musical trends. Freedom Jam came to our school during the month of January and performed assemblies for each grade level. They came back for a very successful concert the following evening. Along with dances, skating parties, and concerts, students can always listen to their favorite groups by buying tapes, records, and of course, decorating their lockers with their favorite posters and stickers. 166 i Happenings My favorite song is: My favorite group is: My favorite video is: Happenings M 167 At the end of the 1984 school year, the 8th grade class was awarded a very special trip to Walt Disney World. The students enjoyed a fun-filled day of riding many spectacular attractions such as Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain, and the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. This was a memorable day for all of our 8th graders. 168t Disney Trip Disney Trip 169 3k. ma av Get Away for a Day For the sixth grade and foreign language classes here at SHMS a trip to the St. Petersburg International Folk Fair lSPlFFl was an exciting and well deserved break from the busy school day. The students that attended SPIFF were able to observe, as well as experience, the different cultures of the different countries. This year the sixth grade also attended the performance of ltThe Amazing Einstein at the Performing Arts Center and Theater. lPACTl It was an enjoyable experience for all that attended. 170 l Happenings 3404 East Lake Road East Lake Woodlands Plaza 1813 785-7100 EAS T MIKE HAIR SALDN Hair Styles for Men and Women Tuesday-Saturday JUST THE RIGHT TIME, 0000 .
