To be in Saegertown was a nice experience. I will never forget it in my whole life. I hope someday that I can come back.” Irma Villosenor is from Guadalajara, one of the main cities in Mexico. Her family is like any typical American family, with 16 year old twins Tomas and Carlos, 13 year old Ricardo, and 12 year old Arnulfo, all being the typical little brothers. She arrived in Saegertown on October 19th, and will be leaving in June. Irma’s home away from home is with Mr. and Mrs. A1 Rapp of Saegertown. Mr. Rapp, Irma, Mrs. Rapp D.A.R. But the team, after a rather shaky start, really put it all together against Conneaut Valley. Then, with four victories in our pockets, and a league record of 5-1, we played the game that made the season, scoring 14-12 against Maplewood for a Homecoming crowd of 3,000. This exciting game brought about many controversial comments which were placed in the Happy Ad section of the Meadville Tribune, and even resulted in several letters to the editor. Our defeat of Venango Christian gave us one third of the three-way tie for the CCL championship. At a meeting of all the league coaches shortly afterwards a playoff to decide a single champion, was vetoed. Pat Butler, John Kaspick, Jerry Ricci, Dave Lybarger, and Dan Jamison were chosen by vote of all the coaches in the CCL as members of the All-Star squad, and Roy Campbell and Tim Krysiak received honorable mention. To start off the weekend, Dramatics Club presented “A Visit to a Small Planet” on Friday, followed by a pep assembly where the queens and escorts were honored. Friday night the queens were brought on to the field by horse and wagon. At halftime Karen Bahurinsky was crowned by Kevin Briggs before a capacity crowd, then escorted around the field in a horse and buggy. The night was topped off by our win over Maplewood, 14-12. The dance was held Saturday at the American Legion Building with Mr. Midnight providing the music. All together Homecoming '76 was a total success. 57 1975 GOLF TEAM Row 1: Glen Hamilton, Jeff Stallard, Ken Devore, Marion Sovic. Row 2: Mike Consiglio, Bill Martin, Scott Sundback, Dick Perry, Jeff Cargo. Coach Wiegle The Saegertown Golf Team made a very respectable showing this year in the CCL. With an overall record of 7-9, we finished in a tie for 4th place. We had a young team this year. With only 3 seniors, we are looking forward to most of our team returning next year as the basis for the 1976 team. Jeff Stallard Ken Devore Glen Hamilton 58 GIRLS VOLLEYBALL The 1975 Volleyball team began its season in March with 19 girls on the team. Under coach Bonnie Lamphear, the team moved up in the line toward the winners bracket by placing 4th with a 4-3 record. Saegertown received a trophy, however, by getting 1st place in an Invitational Tournament held at Conneaut Lake. With only the loss of 4 seniors, the 1976 team should have a bright future ahead. It was rough going at Rocky Grove but even tougher in Saxonburg where the band waited in the rain until 9:30 at night to march. Later in July the band sweated through 97° temperatures to take first place at the Meadville Fireman’s Parade. The long hot summer continued with parades in Townville, Fredonia, Cochranton and Cambridge Springs, where first place spot was again taken. Marching to songs like “This Land is Your Land”, “Marching Trumpets Ole , and Soulful Brass the band paraded through Kennywood Park. Later in the fall the band placed fifth out of twenty-one bands at the Clarion Fall Festival. The parade season was wrapped up at the Meadville Halloween Parade. The football season was also successful. The pre-game show featured the piccolos in the “Spirit of 76”. The band entered the field for half-time marching to Gospel John”, and continued with dance routines to songs like Mississippi Mud”, “Up in a Puff of Smoke” and Baddest Band”. Majorettes were featured in “That’s Entertainment”, and “Don’t Rain on my Parade . 65 66 Spirit of 1 VARSITY BASKETBALL ’76 1st Row: Randy Schlosser, Roy Campbell, Jim Bradshaw, John Hassinger, Doug Hunter. 2nd row: John Brunot, Ken Zinchiak, Jerry Ricci, Dan Jamison. Scott Schlosser, Dave Watson. The 1975-76 Varsity Basketball team provided us with many exciting games. Randy and Scott Schlosser were among the top scorers in the league. Jerry Ricci and Dan Jamison were a tower of strength on the boards, with Jamison having the reputation as being the best defensive center in the league. Roy Campbell and Jim Bradshaw ‘‘quarter-backed the team, with Dave Watson and John Hassinger providing some key baskets in several victories. For the first time in twelve years our team made the state play-offs, as the class AA Crawford County Champions. This team has overcome numerous obstacles in providing the fans with winning basketball. It was a season that will long be remembered. Proofreading, writing copy, making layouts, missing pictures, lost proofs, headaches, late hours, last minute details — They all come with the job. Thanks to the help of a good staff and to Mr. Baker this book came about. Being Editor was a lesson in management and an experience in itself, and I was thankful for the opportunity. In years to come, look on the faces and pictures in this book and sit back, smile, and let the memories flow, for that is the purpose of this yearbook. Good luck to the class of “76” and may all of your futures prove to be bright and fulfilling and may all of the underclassmen of years to come have many memorable experiences here at good ole S.H.S.
