He who asks seems to have deference for the opinion of his friend, while he only aims to get approval of his own and make his friend responsible for his action. Decorations were made at the various parties held by class members and on May 17 quite a group of people got together and put the last finishing touches on everything. The next morning the Juniors headed for the Country Villa in Edinboro with loaded trucks and cars to set up for the evening to come. The theme. Dancing in the Moonlight, was highlighted by a park scene, which included a gazebo, a running fountain, and numerous yellow rose bushes with park benches backed by a large colorful mural. As each couple entered, they were greeted by the prom aides, who relieved the girls of their wraps and presented them with a long stem yellow rose and a memory book. Various refreshments were served by the prom aides, (Judy Reichel, Roy Campbell, Valerie Ferry, John Hassinger, Karen Bahurinsky, and Ed Manross). The music by Sagonoff was well liked and made the evening a success. The climax came when Gary Smock and Cheryl Vuksan were chosen as King and Queen of the 1974 Junior-Senior Prom. Cheryl was crowned by class President, Jeff Vuksan, and a bouquet of yellow roses were presented to her by the class Secretary, Nancy Humes. As a whole, Saturday evening of May eighteenth, nineteen hundred seventy-four, was a tremendous night which will not soon be forgotton. 23 Senior Directory BILL ALBAUGH Employed at Masons DANNY ALEXANDER ELIZABETH ALLEN Girl's Gymnastics, Pep Qub, Votec-Distributive Ed. The Cats finished with a 7-2 record losing only twice; once to Maplewood and once to General McLane, a non-league affair. The Panthers were led by eleven returning lettermen, including eight seniors. Ground power was provided by senior Jeff Bradshaw and junior Pat Butler with backup help from seniors Jeff Vuksan and Brad Smith. The line contained the most letterman anchored by senior center Gary Watson; tackles Ray Butterfield and Mark Dobos; and guard Doug Terrill. Saegertown's stingy defence held opponents to 38 total points all year, shutting out seven enemy squads for a new county record. With many of the underclassmen seeing action the future looks very promising for the Panthers. Bill Schaffner, Wayne Reed, Mike Marvin, Joe Sloat 52 Junior High Football Row 1: A. Huson, J. They were: Nancy Holowid, Steve Cramer; Janice Luchansky, Jeff Vuksan; Pam Ferguson, Jeff Bradshaw; Debbie Baiera, Dave Darling; Becky Briggs, Joe Hassinger; Linda Bidwell, Mark Prutzman; Shirley Porter, Steve Dillaman; Debbie Wilson, Jeff Wilson; and Shelly Fredricks, Ed Manross. The next Friday, October 18, was really the start of Homecoming. The parents of the candidates and escorts were invited to see the two plays. Another Cinderella and Rummage Rip-Off, that were shown in the auditorium. From there everyone moved into the gym and the formal assembly got under way. The girls, as they entered, were presented with a charm by either Rose Brancato or Cindy Smith from Student Council. After all the candidates and escorts were seated, the second half of the assembly began with the majorettes doing a routine. The rest of the time, the cheerleaders took over and led the Pep assembly. That night was clear buf cold and our football team was ready to go our and meet Cambridge Springs' team. Before the game started the nine candidates were escorted to their seats by the Lakeland Corvette Club in their convertable corvettes. As each girl rounded the field a short resume was given about her. At halftime with Saegertown ahead, both bands entertained with the Saegertown majorettes doing a fire baton act with all the lights out. Then Mr Weigle announced the 1975 Homecoming Queen: Pam Ferguson. She was crowned by the Senior Class President Mark Prutzman and was presented a bouquet of colored mums. The night came to a wonderful close when the Panthers defeated the Blue Devils 40-0. The Homecoming events came to a close with a dance on Saturday night in honor of Queen Pam and her court. The music was presented by Fiction, a live band, and free cider and donuts were served. All of these things were Student Council sponsored. In all Homecoming 1975, with the theme Shimmering Stardust, is one that won't be forgotten for a long time. 57 Left to Right: D. Dennis, P. Fox, D. Martin, K. Shirk, J. Mason, K. Hunter, S. Summer marching band started on July 8th, and the band worked diligently throughout the rest of the summer. They marched at Rocky Grove, Townville, Meadville, and at Kennywood which were all non-competitive parades. They took first place at Northeast but at Fredonia and at Franklinville, New York, they didn't place. Band camp was held here this year from August 26th to the 28th. During that time the band formed their football show. With the start of school, band practice was immediately after school and at the first football game they were on the field for halftime. They marched in the Annual Halloween Parade in Meadville and then concluded their season with the highlight of the year — a trip to Gettysburg. The band financed this trip through the sale of calendars to the community early in the year. 60 Life has loveliness to sell. All beautiful and splendid things, Blue waves whitened on a cliff. This was a year of growing for the Saegertown golf team. We lost most of our last years team to graduation and football. However, our squad of able undergraduates and seniors made a very credible showing. Our record of 5-9 does not indicate how well our untried squad competed with only one returning veteran golfer. Surely we will become a team to reckon with in the future. Coach V !eigle 65 mmi 66 BASKETBALL 1975 Varsity D. Hunter, D. Ervin, R. Campbell, D. Darling, T. Simmons, J. Gigogne, J. Vukson, R. Under new head coach Douglas and his assistant, coach Griggs, the Cats kicked off the new season with 6-2 preseason record, tops in the CCL. The Panthers then went on a four game rampage averaging an incredible 76.5 points a game. The Cats then dropped three in a row but fought back to finish the season with a 8-5 record. Scoring was led by Tom Simmons with 319 and followed closely by Dan Ervin with 314. In the rebound department the Panthers were led by Jeff Vuksan and Tom Simmons each of whom pulled down 212 followed by Jeff Gi-gone with 163. Though a small team the Panthers hustle made them a top contender right down to the wire. Though disappointing, this season brought experience to the younger members of the team. With the expected return of some seasoned vets the future looks bright for the Panther cagers. 68 We 79 Ft. The Saegertown High School basketball team was cheered on to its victories this season by the cheerleaders. The squad consisting of five seniors and one junior has a past record of cheering experience. Pam cheered in eighth grade on the second squad and in ninth grade on the first squad. In her sophomore year she found herself on the Varsity squad and has remained there the Last two years. Mi mi and Nancy added five years experience to the squad this year. Both were on the second squad in their eighth grade year and in ninth grade on the first string. As sophomores they showed pep on the J.V. As Varsity cheerleaders in their Junior and Senior year, they both helped to raise the spirits of the fans. With four years of smiles and spirit, Shirley started out on the first squad in Junior high. In the tenth grade she was a cheerleader for wrestling and has ended her senior year with a high spirited season on the Varsity squad. In Junior high, June was on the first squad for both eighth and ninth grade. As a senior this year she has brought spirit to the Varsity squad. All of them get ideas, put them together, and compose the cheers that they do. 74 Subs: Varsity, Laurie Butterworth. Junior Varsity, Connie Campbell and Anita Butterworth. In the afternoon, the Dramatics Club put on segments from the play, My Sister Eileen . Following the play was a pep assembly at which the queens and their escorts were announced. Each queen was presented a mum and their escorts, carnations, from student council. During the assembly, our panthers played a mock basketball game with the students from the Middle School, who impersonated the Linesville team. The Panthers won, of course. We also won our game that evening with Linesville, 72-70. The queens reigned at half time, with their escorts. The highlight of the day was a Valentines-Blue and Gold Dance with Stan's Ragu entertaining. Thus ended a very nice day. 12th — Rose Brancato Steve Dillaman 11th — Michelle Keppler Scott Smith 10th — Debbie Dennis Mike Butler 9th — Lisa Mozina Mike Jordan D.A.R. On July 2, 1974, I left Pittsburgh Airport believing that I would be leaving the civilized life behind for the summer and that I'd be living in the wild jungles of Ecuador in a thatched hut with a band of Indians. Is that how you picture Ecuador, South America? Well, if it is, you've got the wrong picture! I stayed in the port city of Guayaquil which is very modern. It is the largest city of Ecuador. I stayed with a family of four: a mother, two daughters and one son. There were also two maids, and the house I stayed in was certainly no thatched roof hut! The people in the city imitated Americans by the way they dress and American music is very popular there. While I was there, I attended a private school where all the classes were conducted in Spanish. I also toured the country for ten days. Although I did see Indians and thatched huts, I realized that Ecuador isn't composed of a band of Indians! All in all. I had a wonderful time, although I did have a few problems with the language and adjusting to the culture. My family was super nice to me and I came back leaving many great friends and bringing with me many wonderful memories which I'm sure I'll never forget! Mancuso Real Estate Brokers Mult.j -Li st FUTURE Real Estate 709 Terrace St. Meadville, Pa. 72b-3300 Four years ago in the fall A dream began to be realized at Saegertown. It took the shape of a brand new school. With all its splendor. Each classroom and hall telling its own story. It survived its first class of students. Then continued to live through two more. Until the class that went through it for all four years. Was finally going to say farewell. But their spirit and the school will always live on. Within the school friendships are found and treasured. Good memories and some sad ones too. Maybe a tear here, but always a smile remembered. Lots of hard work but a great deal of satisfaction. Class of '75, Look back at that school every once in awhile. But always look forward, To the future that will be your life. The above was revised from a poem found when the Yearbook Staff went to Buffalo this past summer. We, the Seniors, have attended this school for the past four years since its first existence. The Staff tried to use this idea as a theme in putting this book together. Best of Luck to the graduating Seniors as they leave this school for the last time and may they look back at only the good memories. Sincerely, Becky Briggs Editor 132 Autographs Autographs Autographs Autographs -• ■■
