Saegertown Area High School Contents Saegertown, Pa. s no Sports Band Clubs Underclassmen Administration Faculty When departing from high school our first thoughts are for the things that we will miss. The games, the parties, the dances, the classes we liked, and, of course, our teachers. Each and every one of them gave us something. God bless them. As we realize that our teachers gave us something, we then begin to look a little farther. Approximately 17 years ago each of us was brought about by the sacred union of two people, our father and mother. They have advised us, comforted us, rejoiced when we have triumphed, and grieved when we have failed, punished us when deserving of it and then have forgiven and forgotten. Many of us have left our parents in the shadows but now we recognize them for what they have done. Therefore we dedicate this. The Pantherian, to our parents. God bless them twice over. Last year's baseball team won the County Championship for the third straight time for Saegertown High School. The last game of the season determined the victor; this game was won by Saegertown scoring 13-1 over Randolph. Most of our success came through sterling pitching by Joel Melville and Bill Canon, plus a good defense built around Chuck Rowland, Bob Canon, Norman Peterson. Dan Curry, Jeff Berholtz, and JirgJny Wlwn. The season ended with a 6-2 record. Our Panther football squad this year went one step further than last years, which had one tie game to mar an otherwise perfect season. Coach Merle Darcangelo and his assistants, Melvin Bennett and Richard Baker, led their team into an eight game schedule that ended up a nine game one. One by one the Panthers downed the opposition which tried in vain to break our winning streak. The highlight of the season came when the lights went out during the 4th quarter of the Conneaut Valley game. The game was replayed Nov. 4th at Meadville to a record breaking crowd, which saw Saegertown as the victors of the county loop. From this team came 10 of the 22 county all-stars. The 1959-60 Panther basketball club, under the leadership of their new coach. Mr. Robert Sheakley, headed into the league this year under the guise of the spoilers. The league seemed to be monopolized by two powerhouses, Linesville and Conneaut Valley, who would give no quarter and who seemed destined for a major playoff between them for the championship. Keeping the spirit that has always been Saegertown's, the Panther five fought and played many good games, led by such rebounders as Nat Rob- inson, Irv Edwards, and-Far 1 McCarthy, and by the sharpshooting Bob Jones. No team position team right Canon and a first his Mr. Robert Sheakley. Coach 34 Basketball Backing up the varsity five were an up-and-coming group of Jr. Varsity players coached by Mr. Richard Baker. The Jayvees had a good year in the winning column, promising a fine varsity in the next few years. Such players as Dane Hogan, Chuck Rowland, Bill Robertson, Dick Huson, and Duane Schlosser sparked the team to many fine victories. Dec Jan 1 Edinboro H . . . . . . . This group of spirited Junior High boys play preliminary games the day prior to varsity and junior varsity tilts. Sporting an average win-loss record, some of these players have potential for a very good varsity team a few years hence. 36 Coach--Mr. Robert Smith 7th Grade Basketbal Going one step further than most schools, Saegertown has an organized 7thrgrade basketball squad, coached by our Athletic Director, Mr. Fuller. These boys receive the fundamentals of the game and have an opportunity to experience inter-squad play among themselves. From these ranks will evolve the future Panther teams from Saegertown, and judging from some of the material shown here, it could be a bright future. ROW 1--R. Phelan, S. Melville, B. Ewing, A. Their ovation turned into a standing thank you. Vice President Richard M. Nixon commented, We appreciate the fine job done by this band tonight. Red Granger and the Pennsylvania Senate congratulated us for so well representing our state before the nation. We occupied 30 rooms on the sixth floor of the Conrad Hilton Hotel. We toured Chicago and took a night cruise along the shore line of Chicago. The most wonderful event was coming home. We were met by a demonstration of fire trucks, bells, sirens, cheers and Welcome Home” signs. It was a grand wind-up of an event which takes its place as as the No. 1 school event for years to come. 42 CONCERT BAND: ‘1st Chair Soloist, FLUTES; J. Judd . W. Kvashay, J. Kightlinger, C. The beginning, for most of you, in a career or specialized training which will lead you, eventually, to your life's work. Graduation, a time of beginning, is also a time for serious stock-taking--for assessing your own potentialities and planning your future course. Even large companies, like American Viscose, carefully analyze their assets and opportunities for growth and then chart the direction in which they wish to go. That's how sound progress is made--by setting a goal and working toward it. This year American Viscose will celebrate its Golden Anniversary--fifty years of growth in and with America. Its fibers and films are an indispensable part of American life. About one-third of all the rayon and acetate produced comes from the American Viscose Corporation and one in every three cellophane-wrapped packages is covered with an American Viscose Corporation product. We hope some of you will join us and know the satisfaction of becoming part of a team that is progressing with America.
