The purpose of a yearbook is to integrate all the happenings, and events that have taken place in a given school year. These perhaps, you will not cherish immediately, but as you grow older the memories of your school life will grow fonder and are recollected many more times. I wish to extend my sincere thanks to Mr. Baker and his yearbook staff, for conducting a fine campaign for funds to finance such a vast project and to everyone who contributed in any way to help to make this yearbook a success. After the first practice session held August 18 there were thirty-one present. Merle Darcangelo stepped into Coach Carl Maurana's position when he was appointed school principal. Bob Wattras then became assistant coach. The boys worked very hard in the three weeks drill session before the first game and in the eight weeks following. LEFT TO RIGHT: J. Wagner. J uinior J. Three years ago this fall a group of students, known as the Saegertown Area High School Band, went onto the football field for their first practice session. It seemeda hopeless task to try to teach thirty students the fundamentals of inarching but through the efforts of Mr. James Billingsly the band was prepared to present to the people of Saegertown a long-awaited marching band. Saegertown was overwhelmed at what had been done with these students in a period of only one month. Needless to say after a period of three years Saegertown is one of the proudest band communities in this area. Through the efforts of Mr. Billingsly, the band parents and the band members, the Saegertown Marching Band is one of the finest in Northwestern Pennsylvania. Three years ago the band played for parades in the surrounding area. Two years ago they marched in many parades and also performed at various colleges at halftime. Last year the band performed over thirty shows, at parades, festivals, colleges, and a professional football game. Two of the most important shows took place in Pittsburgh. One was for the Vice-President of the United States, Mr. Richard M. Nixon, when he was campaigning. The other time was for a professional football game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Los Angeles Rams. Many fine things have been said about the band and many news articles have been written about it, but nobody can express the feeling that people receive when they see the band performing, when they see seventy-three students marching and playing and practising so hard to please the persons who come from many places to see them. Our hearty and well-deserved congratulations go to this very fine unit to whom we wish great success in the 1957-58 season. ----- SEATED: S. Goff, R. Thomas. STANDING: H. Durkee, D. Bidwell, D. Kane, C. On. The band room that is soon to be replaced by a new brick building. This year the band had the privilege of making many trips to various places throughout Pennsylvania and one to Jamestown, New York. Most of these trips were taken in the Bethesda Home buses. Ml the joys of the band came when the seventy-three piece organization was traveling to their various engagements. Then came the anxiety of waiting for the show to start. We have a few pictures to show you what the band life is like and we hope it brings back many memories to all the band members. New frontiers in science, in industry, in marketing and finance, and in education are challenging the ability and imagination of graduates who are determined to make the American Dream come true for themselves and their families. In a dynamic, expanding America, there is a high adventure awaiting you. Adventure in satisfying, productive work, and adventure in successful living. American Viscose Corporation is one of America’s most adventurous companies. Pioneering the man-made fiber industry, Avisco products have made many significant contributions to the textile and packaging industries. Today, approximately one-third of all man-made fibers manufactured in the United States are Avisco fibers and nearly one out of every three products packaged in cellophane is wrapped in Avisco cellophane. Here in Meadville, many of the highly skilled technicians producing Acetate textile yarns and “Vinyon” are graduates of local high schools. And the future will undoubtedly provide many more opportunities for area graduates looking for a satisfying career.
