1909 A GOLDEN SPA 1959 The golden jubilee of one's alma mater is an especially glorious event. And so it is that, as with joyous hearts we set ourselves to commemorate SHA's fiftieth anniver- sary of foundation, we were awed at the prospect. How could we do justice to the momentous occasion? Research brought a heartening realization: the task had been ably accomplished by other staffs before us! We found that several editions of the AUDION had already traced the growth of our Academy through the years. A CENTURY IN HAWAII, the Centennial com- memoration published late last year, gave both a pictorial Long long ago the familiar SHA tower was considerably lower there was no top lanai and the kitchen was a separate building ln l9I0 the back yard was still a wilderness f kiawe cactus and red dirt Still the original number of 75 day scholars and I9 boarders had risen and the first Catholic hugh school for girls had taken root Today on a modern spacious campus SHA imparts a Christian education to nearly 800 students and a verbal account of the then and the now. In addition, the SHA SHIELD has this very year featured the Golden Jubilee in detailed monthly installments. Not wishing to repeat data and pictures, we evolved a simpler plan. XVe would sketch the growth of the campus by means of ink drawings in the graduate sec- tion, and would bridge the golden span of SHA's fifty years through a few, well-chosen photographs with elucidating captions. Brief would be our treatment, but unending the grate- ful love that inspired it!
