To Console . . . to repair . . . to adore! This is the lofty end towards which faithful legionnaires Zealously strive. W'ith lovingly compassionate hearts they sacrifice fifteen minutes of leisure time weekly to kneel in .adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. Besides befriending the lonely King of the tabernacle, they also make sacrifices and offer prayers for the conversion of sinners. Privileged, for a few years now, to be ranked as junior Exterior Associates of the SS.CC. Congregation, they seek to live, work, and pray for the greater honor and glory of the Sacred Hearts. Their motto beautifully expresses the unseliishncss of the service they offer to jesus through Mary: lux! fn gin' Him gIury.' JUNIOR APOSTLES OF THE KING OF LOVE The earning of Golden Pennies through prayers, sacrifices, and Eucharistic devotions is a specialty with SHA,s zealous TARS. True to the goal set them by their founder Qsaintly Fr. Mateo, SS.CC., world-renowned apostle of the Sacred Hearty, and inspired by the example of St. Tarcisius, the youthful martyr of the Blessed Sacrament, they strive to make Jesus known and loved. Spirited little missionaries, they powerfully help to convert souls, especially in the mission field of their choice. Their apostolate is clearly revealed in the words of the song they love best, their own Tarcisian hymn: We love Thee, Lord, and we will love Thee ever We long to see Thy Heart triumph and reign. We long to help all souls to know and love Theeg For this we offer all our joy and pain. Yes, He must reign the Sovereign King of Nations! His love must be acknowledged and adored. THE SHA ALUMNAE ASSGCIATIG Left fo right: Mary Louise Jardine, treasurer: Judy Rapozo, vice-president Rita M. Gora, president: Evelyn Cambra, recording secrefaryg Pauline Amoy, President Rita M. Gore presents the Alumnae Co 'e5Po d '9 5eC ela Y- Scholarship fo Reverend Mother Mary Regis. Inspired by loyalty to their alma mater and a loving desire to aid SHA long after they have laid aside the middy blouse and serge skirt, Academy graduates have organized an active Alumnae Association. Besides furthering thc interests of the school they love best,', Alumnae members aim also at aiding one another to live by the principles taught here. Believing that in union there is that genuine strength so much needed in adult life, they take part in various Alumnae-sponsored projects-working together and serving together, the better to stand together as true children of the Sacred Hearts. In their religious program are included days of recollection, usually spent at SHA, and an annual Mass for deceased members, offered annually in the Academy chapel. Social events, such as fashion shows, luncheons, and card parties, not only help to raise Alumnae funds, but also provide welcome opportunities for gay reunions. SHA'ers each year anticipate the presentation of Alumnae scholarships, another phase of the constant interest shown by Alumnae Association in the Academy's educational endeavors. One of the greatest tributes paid by Alumnae members to SHA is the yearly enroll- ment of an ever-increasing number of children and grandchildren-proof sufficient that SHA'ers desire an Academy training like their own for those whom they love most! In turn, the highest praise SHA's faculty can lavish upon faithful Alumnae members is the truthful statement: Uwe know we can always count on you! And so it is that, as with joyous hearts we set ourselves to commemorate SHA's fiftieth anniver- sary of foundation, we were awed at the prospect. How could we do justice to the momentous occasion? Research brought a heartening realization: the task had been ably accomplished by other staffs before us! We found that several editions of the AUDION had already traced the growth of our Academy through the years. A CENTURY IN HAWAII, the Centennial com- memoration published late last year, gave both a pictorial Long long ago the familiar SHA tower was considerably lower there was no top lanai and the kitchen was a separate building ln l9I0 the back yard was still a wilderness f kiawe cactus and red dirt Still the original number of 75 day scholars and I9 boarders had risen and the first Catholic hugh school for girls had taken root Today on a modern spacious campus SHA imparts a Christian education to nearly 800 students and a verbal account of the then and the now. In addition, the SHA SHIELD has this very year featured the Golden Jubilee in detailed monthly installments. Not wishing to repeat data and pictures, we evolved a simpler plan. XVe would sketch the growth of the campus by means of ink drawings in the graduate sec- tion, and would bridge the golden span of SHA's fifty years through a few, well-chosen photographs with elucidating captions. Brief would be our treatment, but unending the grate- ful love that inspired it! Ours has been the sweet duty of tendering you the homage of all your alumnae and student body upon the memorable occasion of your golden jubilee of foundation. XVe have endeavored to accomplish it humbly and sincerely, realizing full well that we could never adequately praise or thank you. lf our desires could have been fulfilled, how gladly would we have eulogized in glowing terms the self- sacrificing band of eleven pioneer Sisters who were your founders! With what Hlial pride would we have commented at length upon the Christlike example of beloved Ma Mere. With what joy would we have honored all who have lived and labored hereg with what gratitude would we have paid tribute to all who love and serve you still! Your noble spirit and lofty ideals would have been commended, your educational system laudedg your efforts at inculcating Christian principles hailed as a service to God and fellowmen. The beauty of your campus would have elicited a song of praiseg the value of your preparation for life in troubled times would have evoked a promise of lasting thankfulness. Your eventful historv would have been told with charming anecdote and interesting detail. But all this was beyond our scope! Although panegvrics were not ours to pen, a brief and heartfelt tribute we can and will pay. As the vears roll along, the words of our Alma Mater and of our Class Song-so fittinsrlv embodied in the paees of this vearbook-will re-echo in our hearts, recalling your challenge: Tiff Irv mv shiril! Until we come home to the Sacred Hearts von have taught us to honor, we will be striving to fulfill that Quest. Privileged members of your Golden lubilee Class. we bid you a fond Aloha in this parting paean and praver: The Lord has made you an instrument of His peace: Where there might have been hatred, you have brought loveg Where there might have been wrong, you have brought forgivenessg Where there has been discord, you have brought harmony, Where there has been error, you have brought truth: Where there has been doubt, you have brought faithg Where there have been shadows, you have brought lightg Where there has been sadness, you have brought joy.
