I WILL LET EALL A SHOWER OE ROSES Like the stars that twinkle in the deep black skies, so glitter the precious gems of sanctified souls in the heavenly crown of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus. Though her ardent desire to go to the foreign missions was never fulfilled, her simple and holy life of prayer, sacrifice, and suffering gained for her the title, Patroness of all Missionaries. True to her promise: After my death I will let fall a shower of roses . . . , the Little Flower has assisted thousands of Priests, Sisters, and Brothers in far-flung mission fields. Evidence of this fact may be found in the two series of events which inspired Pius XI to designate this Cannelite Saint, the +Patroness of the Missions. The first was the missionaries' selection of St. Theresa as patron of their labors. As a result, between the years 1900 and 1925, there were 1,250,000 conversions in China, which was twice the number for the whole preceding century. s The second was the astounding experience of Bishop Charelbois of Northern Canada. It seems that after working among the Eskimos for five years, he had failed to gain a single convert. But one day, he sprinkled dust from the grave of the Little Flower upon a crowd assembled before him and all asked to be baptized. ' - i As Holy Mother Church celebrates the Silver Jubilee of the Proclamation of St. Theresa as Patron- ess of Missionaries during this scholastic year, the Graduates of SHA are happy to pay tribute to her whom Cod has given us as a saintly model of Spiritual Childhood. May we, like her, be real missionaries bynging many to the true knowledge and love of our dear Lord and of His Blessed Mother by the intense fervor of our own spiritual life. L Y TEACHERS Popular and well-loved personalities in the classrooms and on the campus are the lay members of the Faculty. Proficiently holding class sessions in both the Gram- mar and High School Departments is our favorite Mrs. Dorothy Macy Nobriga ,29, who also serves as Physical Education Instructor. Another competent faculty member is Mrs. Sophie Ventura Robello '43, petite and charming teacher of the third graders. Completing this list of lay teachers is Miss Maureen Cassidy '48, whom one will al- ways find rendering valuable assistance in lioth the Eng- lish and Music Departments. May the Sacred Hearts bless these true daughters of SHA and continue to guide them in their splendid and generous efforts for the cause of Catholic Education. The Sacred Hearts Legion was first initiated in SHA fifteen years ago. Since that time it has grown to he the largest organization in the Academy claiming almost three-fourths of the high school enrollment. A very special characteristic of the Legion is its alliliation to the National Center of the En- thronement. In this work the spirit of the Legionnaires is best manifested Legion leaders pose before the statue of the Sacred Heart alter reception ceremonies. Consequently, depicting the works of the far-flung mission lands has lmecome an important class project for Tarcisians. This year the youthful hand of lovers of the Sacred Hearts has taken active interest in Japan and South America. They put up special mission exhibits for which appropriate rilmlrons were awarded. The spiritual work of these little apostles does not cease when they have outgrown the Tarcisian stage for then they readily join their big sisters as active Legionnaires. President Unit Srcrelary Unit Treasurer On my honor, I will try To do my duty to God and my Country, To help other people at all times, And to obey the Girl Scout Laws. This pledge falls from the lips of Girl Scouts throughout the world. Girl Scouting, besides helping each individual in the development of mind and body, instills into every girl a sense of duty and of ardent love for her country. Consequently, these privileged young ladies have received a deeper understanding ofthe duties of a Christian citizen, developed a stronger bond of affection for her neighbor, and fully realized that the Flag is dependent on the Cross. This realization is openly manifested at the annual Scout Rally which begins with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, continues with a birthday celebration and distribution of awards, and ends with the investiture ceremony, the Consecration to Our Blessed lVlother, and the Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Their efforts were amply rewarded by the generosity of the student body which must have brought much cheer to many a hospital ward. F S5 3 fo, MUSIC Do you know how much a violin means to a symphony? Then you know how much music means to SHA. The study and development of music in many, many forms is extensively carried on for the complete training of Academites. Students of every grade are provided with opportunities in music and voice as special periods are devoted to vocal training. Besides these regular classes, the choristers have a daily class in which they are carefully taught religious llargely Cregorianj, classical. and semi-classical selections. Our younger set is first acquainted with music reading in the classroom. By this method a gradual and more comprehensive introduction to the musical instrument is accomplished. Une experiences a delightful thrill while watching a tiny six-year-old stretch her fingers over the piano keys. More individualistic- minded students prefer the violin or the cello. The many rooms in Saint Cecilia Hall afford an excellent refuge for solitary practice. The Rhythm Band has its place at SHA, too. Once a year, the tots of Grade I don their hest white dresses and commence lwith the aid of drums. triangles. tamhourines. hells and sticks! to entertain a most appreciative audience. In the Chapel, in the halls, in the classrooms, and on the campus. every- where, the integral part of our life is found - MUSIC. SHA LHORISTERS FIRST ROW, left to right: L. Adams, D. Clement. S.
