Children of the Sacred lieartai To the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Honor and Glory! How sweet and meaningful are these familiar words-words which we, the Graduates of '49 hold especially dear as symbolic of the spirit of the Academy. just what is this spirit? It is one which speaks of love, friend- ship, and unity derived from times well spent in both religious and curric- ular activitiesg one, in fact, which we attribute to little, yet priceless, things. Perhaps it is the relaxed feeling we have when we are in the chapel with Our Lord, or the splendor of the soft organ music and the beautiful sing- ing of the choir which would tempt even the angelic hosts to descend and listen, or the Warmth of the girl kneeling beside us, that enlivens this spirit. Whatever it be, each has played a prominent part in causing the essentials of our happiness. S.H.A. has been our second home. Here, our characters have been molded, our faith strengthened. Here, our love of God has been enlivened, made firmer, truer. Here, We have learned the beauty of close friendships, the meaning of staunch loyalties. The highway upon which we must soon embark necessitates a rendition of these essentialities-love, friendship, and unity. We, the youth of today, must fulfill this requisite and hence attain our goal-Life Everlasting in the Heavenly Court with Our Divine Lord and His Blessed Mother. We realize our responsibility and value the intrinsic worth of our Catholic education. It is an important means to an even more important end.

Therefore, let us retrace our steps on that gilded stairway which leads to graduation. Let us retrace in order that we may appreciate fully, the privilege of having received an educatioil in a Catholic environment, let us retrace in order that we may not forget those Religious who laid the foundations for our future growth-those who built a highly esteemed school based upon sacred ideals. We entered our Alma Mater as little seeds and under the gentle and expert tutelage of the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts grew with increasing vitality. Each year saw the blossoming of our characters such as can be had only through a well-planned program of study and prayer-study to develop our God-given talents-prayer to obtain light and guidance along the path of righteousness. We were made aware of the fact that the Arts-the cultural tools of mankind, were ours to recognize and to em- ploy. Soon we learned that good sportsmanship is penetrating and far- reaching into a calm, clear, future. Such was the indispensable task of our physical education. As members of the High School, we found both enjoy- ment and relaxation in the social gather ings sponsored by the various cam- pus organizations. From these, we acquired a lasting knowledge of good, sound, Catholic behavior. Above all, we learned that harmonious associ- ation with all people, regardless of race, color, or creed is a very sure path to the establishment of World Peace. The swiftness of time brought us at last, to Seniordom- the last stretch. Already, the Academy had claimed our hearts, her teachings were deeply rooted within our minds and wills. Yes, we are a fortunate lot. Seeds we once were-trees we are now- ready to branch out into the different walks of life, ready to meet its complexities. -
