Bona saw the immediate need of a diocesan seminary. Monsignor Griese was named the founding rector of the new seminary and was primarily responsible for its location and struc- ture. Visiting various other seminaries to seek help for the building, he planned and personally supervised the construction work. During his capacity as seminary rector, Monsignor Giriese saw the school grow from its first faculty of three full-time members to its present faculty of fifteen priests and two lay- men, and from its first enrollment of 75 to its present six year enrollment of 280 students. The Very Reverend Founder set up the discipline, daily schedule, and administration for the students. Chiefly through his efforts, Sacred Heart Seminary was granted full ac- creditation by the North Central Education Association. lntensely active and interested in vocational work, Monsignor was instrumental in the founding of the diocesan Serra Clubs, being ll l tl Q 41 fr Q -O 1, gf, W A MJ Monsignor Griese poses proudly with Bishop Bona, Monsignor Marx, and one of the many graduating classes he guided through the six year minor seminary course. He also originated the Sacred Heart Seminary League and the Wisconsin Conference of Seminaries. Another major achievement was his establishment of vocation clubs on the parish level. In cooperation with the seminary Voca- tions Committee, many young boys were directed to their priestly vocation. In recognition of his work for the seminary and the diocese, Pope Pius XII named Father Griese a Papal Chamberlain on March 14, 1958. Pope John XXIII renewed the appoint- ment after his election. On September 26, 1962, Monsignor Griese was appointed pastor of St. Mary's parish, Brillion. Monsignor's interest in and dedication to- wards seminarians was truly inspiring. For nine years as rector Monsignor Griese had faithfully and zealously guided many seminarians onward to the altar of God. He had most certainly laid down his life for his sheep. The Reverend Rector discusses future activities of the Vocations Committee with its members.

The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep. Monsignor N. Ad Altare Dez' is the main objective of every seminarian. Through the efforts of the faculty, the aspiring seminarian is guided to the table upon which he will one day offer sacrilice. Since Sacred Heart has a faculty composed almost exclusively of priests, the seminarian, during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, daily can ascend the steps of the altar with the priest. During the day, the seminarian has the con- stant example of another Christ before his eyes. This excellent living example instructs and guides him to his objective. The task of these dedicated men is demand- ing. They sacrifice their lives for the future shepherds of the diocese through study, teach- ing, and prayer. These are the faculty members of Sacred Heart Seminary who shepherd the seminarians by instruction, guidance, example, and sacri- fice to the altar of God. feed my sheep.-SL. John
