Very Reverend Monsignor N. Orville Griese EDI C o For the first time in the brief history of Sacred Heart Seminary, her student body was without the blessings and benefits of Monsignor Orville Griese. Before being assigned to St. Mary's Parish at Brillion, Wisconsin, on September 26, 1962, Mon- signor Griese as rector of SHS had zealously devoted over nine years of his life in preparing and guiding seminarians to their priestly goal. A man of God, Monsignor Griese endeavored by action, example, and prayer to impart to the student the quality and desire of being other Christsf' A competent administrator, the former rector of Sacred Heart Seminary did much to raise the ideals and standards of the school. We all acknowledge Monsignor Griese's past services, his friendly and dynamic personality, and his forwardness of thought and integrity without which Sacred Heart Seminary might not exist. We wish Monsignor the best of success in his new priestly work and, in View of his many years of un- selfish dedication in furthering priestly vocations in the diocese of Green Bay, it is with deep apprecia- tion and gratitude that the 1963 Ad Allure is dedi- cated to Monsignor Orville Griese.

Foreword Like other institutions in the world-the family, parish, community, and nation-Sacred Heart Minor Seminary is both a complex of individuals and a distinct person in itself. Between the narrow boundaries of birth and death, the Seminary, like the individual, unfolds its own singular personality, shoulders a God-given responsibility, and marches toward a determined goal in life. Against the back- ground of this metaphor, Ad Allare is the Seminary's diary and photo album, where its deeds, memories, and dreams are recorded. To the staff of the annual must go justifiable praise for serving as photographers, scribes, and editors of this life story. In so doing, they have exhibited the priestly virtues of enthusiasm, co- operation, and industry. Now, in a kind of proud humility, they open these pages for the Seminary's many friends. Without our sponsors and patrons a wide distribution of the story would have been impossible. Credit must also go to Monsignor Griese, first rector of the school, for his encouragement of the annual when it began three years ago, and to Father Colle, present rector, and Father Witczak, director of the Pontifical Society for Vocations, who have brought us to look upon this record not only as a memento of school life to be treasured warmly by our students, but also as a vehicle of publicity for the spreading of vocations. In accord- ance with their planning, a copy of this book will be placed in each grade school and high school within the diocese. Finally, my part in Ad Allare has been the easiest: merely to direct and encourage a highly talented staff, and then to have a full share in the praise for a task well done. 7am gown Qiledaag 1440141140 .... - ,, fff H 2
