Dick Braun arranges the Missal for Mass. Sacristans One of the most honorable appointments which can be given to any seminarian is that of sacristan. The work of sacristans is work that can be a liberal educa- tion within a narrow, yet very important, circle for a seminarian. This year the efficient job was performed by David Egan and Richard Braun. These young men spent many hours preparing the sanctuary for the school's various liturgical functions. Polishing chalices, scrubbing and vacuuming floors, ordering supplies, and even sewing vestments consume ten hours of their week. Solemn Masses, Forty Hours' Devotion, and other special events add to their Work. Outside of these duties, the twentieth century sextons have the re- sponsibility of making our sacristy one of the neatest places in the building. Dave Egan fills a ciborium with hosts ,-5 Q Qi iiit ii siit Ceremony Instructors Each member of the student body is eventually qualified to serve everything from acolyte at a private low Mass to master of ceremonies at a Solemn High Mass. The exacting and patient task of training the servers was carried out during the past year by Myron Van De Ven and John Vanden Boogaard.

Thou shall renew the face of the earth . . . Spiritual reading is important to the seminarian for information and spiritual growth. The seminarian incorporates spiritual reading into his life on his own initiative. As a devotion to the Blessed Mother, the rosary is said daily in com- mon. To honor Christ properly at High Mass, chant practice is held following rosary. The students are encouraged to inculcate into their lives certain devo- tions which they can perform on their own time. Night prayers and high school meditation at 9:00 P.M. close the day. 1 Let us pray . . . 0 God Who didst instruct the hearts of Thy faithful . . . Q , . . Holy Spirit descend upon you and remain with you forever. Amen.

Weekly Confessors: Rev. Joseph A. Labno CSt. John's, Seymourj, Rev. Thaddeus Koszarek CSpiritual Director, CON FESSORS Every Friday afternoon at 4:30, two of our neighboring pastors journey to the seminary to hear confessions. Father Al- fred Hietpas from Freedom, Father Joseph Labno from Seymour, and Father Donald Schneider from lsaar, who sub- stitutes, deserve many thanks for their sacrifices. These under- standing priests unselfishly avail themselves to help and guide the students on the path of SHSD, and Rev. Alfred H. Hietpas CSt. Nicholas, Freedomj. Father Koszarek delivers a class conference. perfection. SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR Father Koszarek begins his day around 5:00 A.M. Being a former army man, he has made early retiring and early rising a way of life. After he has finished his Mass, Father makes himself available in the confessional for the convenience of the students. In fact, making himself accessible to the students is Father's specialty. The door to his room is always open, and troubled students or those just wanting to talk to someone have in him a person that they can depend on. Each class has a conference with Father each week. The topics of his conferences range from the con- templative life to spiritual motivations for getting fresh air. Father Koszarek is truly one who leads and en- courages by example. Whether reading, walking, or praying, Father is augmenting by action what he has exhorted in speech.
