But even more are we elated and confident in the thought, that under the kindly, loving hand of your revered teachers, you have been well grounded in Christian knowledge and virtue, and are ready to follow courageously the Divine Master - also, when He lets the cross rest heavily, yet lovingly, on your shoulders. we very much need strong, virtuous women in the world today - women so imbued with the virtues of Christ, that they will spread His fragrance wherever they go, women so filled with the spirit of Christ that His pres- ence in their souls will be felt by every soul they meetg Women so filled with the love of Christ, that souls will be drawn to Him by the catching force, the sympathetic influence of what they do - revealing the fulness of the love they bear Him. we confidently trust and pray that the Class of l955 will prove to be all thatg we wish you the continued guidance and blessing of the Sac red Heart . an -rf' 5 1 47? This was our first real vacation since our honeymoon, so we wanted to make it an espec- ially memorable one. On the night after our arrival in Los Angeles we went to the Ritz Theater and were much surprised to discover that Carol Clasgens was starring in the famous Broadway production playing there, North Pac- ific . After the performance Carol invited us to her apartment for a party. There we met several former Sacred Heart Girls, Barbara Brown, Margue- rite James, and Mary Margaret Lee, who are now famous Power's models. At the party also were Jimmy's brother, Johnny and his wife, the former Betty Lou Hartley, who were on their vacation too. After a delightful visit with Carol we went to the Copacabana Club to dance and were we surprised to find that Mollyan Howell and her dancing partner, Pierre, were the chief at- traction in that fashionable night spot! At the club we met Teresa Grantham and her husband. Teresa has been living in Los Angeles for about four yearsg her husband is owner of the M-G-M picture company. Visiting with Teresa at the time was another of my classmates, Martha Rapp. Martha informed me that she and Charlie had been married three years and she showed me a pre- cious picture of little Charlie III. The next morning I went shopping. On Vine Street I found a modish shop with this sign, Exclusive Gowns - Madame Huffman . Of course, I had to go in, and what an enjoyable time I had viewing some of Nancy's latest creations! I was almost late for lunch which I had with Jimmy at the Brown Derby Res- taurant. Also having luncheon there were Peggy Spurlock and Mary Lou John- son. Peggy is married to a famous chiropodist and Mary Lou's husband owns the largest drugstore in Los Angeles. We stayed in Los Angeles a few more days and then went to San Francisco for a short visit. There we went to the Metropolitan Theater to hear a concert, starring the famous pianist, Connie Coleman, who had just returned from an international tour. The next day we took a plane for New York. Here I looked up several Sa- cred Heart girls to renew old friendships. Jessie Dinolfo, owner of the famous Waldorf Hotel, welcomed us with true Southern hospitality and made us feel quite at home. She told me that she and her husband bought the hotel about two years ago and are progressing nicely. Pat Callahan is married now and has a darling home in the Bronx. She insisted on taking us to La Guardia Field to see Meta Sue Jones, who is the TWA receptionist there. The air stewardesses on three of the incoming planes were Raemarie Copeland for 82 FQ Chicago 81 Southern, Mary Gillen for TWA and Dorothy Emerson for Ameri- can Airlines. Among the passengers on the C 8: S plane that day were Suzanne Riedman and her husband, Ma.x. They had come to New York from Atlanta for a vacation, bringing with them Little Suzie, and she's precious! The next day at the Optometrical Clinic of New York I met the renowned optometrist, Pat Timanus, whose head nurse, is Ann Liles, another SHS girl. I also visited Barbara Spencer, R.N. , head supervisor at New York State Hospital. Gloria Slattery has an attractive apartment on Riverside Drive. We had dinner with her and she told me that she is bookkeeper for a large New York wholesale concern. I went to visit Mary Elizabeth Moore at beautiful and historic St. Catherine College on the Hudson, where she is athletic director. But even the longest vacation must end, and home and business were call- ing. We decided to go home via Washington, D. C. ln nearby Arlington, Vir- ginia, we visited Rose Marie Ferrante, who is living there with her husband and two little boys. Dorothy Wells and her husband, James, are also living in Virginia: they have two darling daughters. While I was there Barbara Mur- ray came in, She, too, is married and her husband is stationed at the Penta- gon. A few hectic days of sightseeing in the nation's capital, and then Memphis down in Dixie, the last and best stop. lwas eager to go to see all my friends and tell them about the wonderful time we had had and all the SHS girls we had met. My first visit was to Lillian and Raoul's Super Market to see Lillian Mengarelli and tell her everything. Her little girl was at the store with her so I took her home with me to play with Jimmy Junior and Mary Ann. That after- noon l went to visit Betty King and Betty Pierini. They are both living at Kim- brough Towers. Betty King is private secretary to Phil Warren of Stratton- Warren. Betty Pierini is married to Don. While we were talking, Mary Theresa Lopiccolo, who is married and has an apartment at the Parkview, came in for a visit. With her twins, Danny and Donny. That evening Barbara Leflar and Eddie came over for dinnerg they have been married for five years now. Barbara told me that she had received a letter from Joan Riddick that same morning. Joan is married to an oil man in Dallas. The following morn- ing I drove out to see Rita Sterle. She operates a large farm at Germantown where she breeds Tennessee Walking horses. I went to a meeting this afternoon of the Colonial Acres Civic Club. One of the officers elected for the coming season was Maureen Brady, who is sec- retary to Jack Goldsmith at the department of City Administration. l, the former Yanna Frick, was elected recording secretary. 83 .Mgkggkfing Ann Liles -Valedictorian Q f-, 515525: - Y W .
