Although there has been a delay in letting contracts for the work, it is expected that construction will begin this summer. For the past four years the school has been changed and reshaped under the guidance of Bruce Carlson, superin- tendent, pictured TOP CENTER. His tireless campaign helped bring about the passing of the school bond issue for a new gym, and he has added to the curriculum by a cooperative plan with the Granite Falls schools. Children work in groups with children of similar abilities but not necessarily the same age. These groups are revised about every three weeks, relocating the children in dif- ferent groups under the direction of a different teacher. This year the Sacred Heart elementary students have used IGE methods in the math program. They are a fairly large class for Sacred Heart; there are 34 members. They have had some firsts and have set some interesting records. This year's class has had the largest number of its members participating in music activities. A total of 23 in band and choir were privileged to be seniors when the largest number of Superior Star ratings were won, a total of 52. This is the first SHHS class to have girls join the FFA chapter. One of the members set a new District 12 track record. One girl was the first SH contestant in the state declam meet. Besides the firsts the class has set, there may also be some lasts. Due to changes in school policy, this may be the last class to have a senior field trip. And as Mr. Carlson announced at Commencement, this may well be the last class to graduate from the old gymnasium. RIGHT: Tom Schwing takes his turn in the concession stand.
