Mary Delguidice and Debbie Vankooyan show off their freshmen. Kelly Finnegan and Joy Zimmer display their prize. Once again, the initiation of Freshman was the biggest highlight of the year for both the Freshman and Sopho- mores. The Freshman spent their day dressed in a cos- tume designed by their master. A contest was held in the gym to decide the best costume. Although many of the freshman were scared at first, they soon began to realize that the Sophomores weren't so bad after all. At last. the longest most feared day for freshman was over.

It is usually the last day of Spirit Week and symbolizes all the unity and friend- ship among the classes. Each class is designated a color that they carry throughout their four years here. The highlight of the day is the balloon send-off where at a certain time, the four different colors of balloons are sent 'up, up and away'. .. Seniors hang out in the hallway. ii To begin Spirit Week at SHM, we as seniors decorated our section of the cafe, representing our class spirit. Green and pink streamers and bal- loons filled the windows and ceiling everywhere, We also decided to dedi- cate the tradition of dress up week to Punk Rock and Poly Plaid days. Punk Rock day filled the hallways with satin outfits, leather jackets, gaudy jewelry and wild-make-up. Poly Plaid day brought back memories of the 60's when polyester was the thing to wear, Side parts, big barettes, babooshkas. cat's eye glasses, pantsuits. peds, go- go boots and pointy gym shoes all re- flected the style of the time.
