In order to give S.H.M. students a well rounded education, an exten- sive course in languages is available. The language department offers classes in three Romance languages: Latin, French, and Spanish. Through the study of these languages, the students not only acquire knowledge of the language but also learn the culture and customs of these coun- tries. For the more interested stu- dents there are French and Spanish clubs, also many activities in con- nection with the study of these Ian- guages. For example, the Latin stu- dents participate in the Auxilium Latinum contest. French has captured the interest of many sophomores.

Junior biologists learn the secrets of nature. Laboratory courses in bi- ology and chemistry, plus lower division courses in gen- eral science and physiology afford a solid foundation for future scientists. Field trips are taken by the various sci- ence classes to help the pu- pils understand the secrets of nature.
