Algebra and geometry are offered to the under-classmeng higher math- ematical challenges are presented in the advanced algebra and trigonom- etry classes. An activity such as the annual math field day sponsored by the math students for freshmen from various high schools is an enriching experience. This year five seniors were awarded NSF grants to Loyola University for a superior mathemati- cal course. Logs speed up solutions in trigonometry. 58 the Space Age!

The past is unfolded for all who wish to partake of its treasures. Freshmen and Sophomore years are spent studying the history of the world. American history is studied by the iuniors. Seniors are prepared for their role as citizens in the excellent civics course. Activities in the History Depart- ment are many. Students take part in the annual Examiner American History Contest. Informative displays are presented in the library by all classes of history. Civics class stu- dents of this year attended the School of Anti-Communism and par- ticipated at the Model UN at Loyola University, they also held a mock campaign and election in November. 57

Junior biologists learn the secrets of nature. Laboratory courses in bi- ology and chemistry, plus lower division courses in gen- eral science and physiology afford a solid foundation for future scientists. Field trips are taken by the various sci- ence classes to help the pu- pils understand the secrets of nature. This year the chem- istry class went to see MOTORAMA, a proiect spon- sored by General Motors Corporation. jie sau, of ffm Waferia!
