WE, THE GRADUATES of 1958, pay respectful homage to our Bishop, the Most Reverend Justin J. McCarthy. His inter- est in our Catholic education is best manifested in the inspir- ing message he conveys to each one of us on the opposite page. We thank His Excellency for completing Sacred Heart’s Master Plan by the addition of our new high school wing.

Like to a rich medieval tapestry are the life-figures and the deft motif of the 1958 Vine Leaves. Obscured somewhat by upperclass activities during the earlier years at Sacred Heart, the present seniors come into their own in the presentation of their completed tapestry, the golden threads of which they gather for presentation to the Master-Weaver who planned the whole design.” Of min- gled yarns has been the texture of these four colorful years. Swifter than a weaver’s shuttle have they sped away, leaving their most realistic moments and coveted memories. The fragrance of accomplishment that permeates these final pages must never ob- scure the maze of tangled knots and discordant colors that make the under side” of this tapestry. Twisted strands and multi- tangled skeins there were to be sure, but the completion and perfection of the whole makes us forget those arduous hours of student labor when we pulled the threads and set in the weave, numbered the rows and tightened loose ends. Every action of our four years at Sacred Heart, whether academic or co-curricular, has contributed to the design on the upper side” of our tapestry. Now as we shut down the loom of our school life, we invite you, our priests, parents, teachers and student-weavers to share in the joy of the finished pattern.

Xy dear Students: Inspired by the thought so beautifully expressed by Father ?abb in his poem, Life's Weaving , you have chosen an excellent thene for your 1956 Yearbook. At Sacred Heart High School you have learned that genuine love means conformity to the Will of God. You have learned what God wills you should believe and do. You have learned that God permits trials to purify, strengthen and enrich your character. You have realised better that God helps you by His grace and by inspiring others to guide and encourage you. Your priests, your parents and your teachers are most interested in your spiritual and mental development. I am sure you are sincerely grateful for what they have done and ale doing for you in the name of Cur Lord. May I mention particularly your capable and devoted pastor. Monsignor Hickey, whc has recently been singularly honored by Our Holy Father, Pope Pius XII. In accord with the thene you have selected for this year, I should like tc emphasize a fact which I ar sure you appreciate. In the life of every one of us God is the Principal Weaver; we are His subjects and co-workers. He desires to fashion for each one of us a pattern of life which will insure a measure of peace and happiness for us on earth as a preparation for a more glorious life with Him in heaven. It is my prayerful hoe that you ever continue to weave in earnest and let God the Master Weaver do the rest. God and you make the best partn« ship to guarantee a good life for you. He will never fail to do the major port; I am certain that you have learned to co-operate with Him, Your °est Friend. Faithfully yours in Christ, -f Bishop of Camden.
