Won 6 Basketball Lost 12 Won 4 Basketball Lost 4 Cheerleaders Leases Our Sodality Patrons: Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Holy Father, Saint Joseph “The old order changeth, yielding place to new” was experienced in our Sodality when shortly after our return to school last September the election of officers took place on the eighteenth of the month. As a result of the election the following officers were chosen: Peter Infante, Prefect; Gloria Brezzo, First Assistant Prefect; Paul Ney, Second Assist- ant Prefect; Anne Nealis, Secretary; Frank Wagner, Treasurer. At 11:30 every Tuesday in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament the office of the Blessed Virgin Mary is recited. It might be well to remind ourselves of our motto, “To Jesus through Mary” and to picture the ideal Sodalist. A sodalist of the Blessed Virgin Mary should imitate Jesus, through Mary, as perfectly as possible. The first-rate sodalist should strive to cultivate in his heart an ardent devo- tion, reverence and filial love for the Blessed Virgin Mary. Through devotion to Mary the sodalist should try to be an exemplary Catholic. This inward fervor ought to be of the kind which tends of its own nature to overflow in good works. The ideal sodalist should be marked by the constant spirit of charity and zeal in private life. On March 25, 1941, the Freshmen and the new pupils of the school were received into the Sodality by Father Hickey. Our earnest wish is that they will be ideal sodalists and that keeping in mind our motto “To Jesus, through Mary”, both they and we shall reach the goal. ANNE NEALIS OFFICERS OF THE SODALITY Seated - Peter Joseph Infante, Prefect Standing - Paul Ney, Second Assistant Anne Nealis, Secretary Gloria Brezzo, First Assistant Francis Wagner, Treasurer . League Of The Sacred Heart “I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all in death.” Many years ago, fifty-two to be exact, on October 25, 1889, th3 League of the Sacred Heart was established in our parish. There is evidence that for some years the League flourished, but gradually interest flagged and the meetings were neglected. However, some faithful souls in the parish remembered they were members of the League and wore their Sacred Heart badges each time they received our Lord in Holy Communion. The children of the school were solemnly consecrated to the Sacred Heart and the school made a local centre of the League, September 26, 1923. These facts came to light last year when our teachers, the Sisters of St. Joseph, undertook to reorganize and revive the society. To us, the class of 1941, Juniors at the time, was given the honor of being promoters. Each month League Leaflets and Intention cards are distributed to all high and grade school students. The children arc encouraged to mark their intentions and good works on a chart in each class room. We feel sure that this work, which we had a small part in promoting, will be carried on fer years to come, for the betterment of the parish. It is our earnest hope that the members of each Junior Class will bs zealous promoters of the Sacred Heart in this, His own parish, and that through the years we may remember our obligations as members of the League of the Sacred Heart. Thy Kingdom Come! KATHARINE DURAND JOHN WALSH When A Father Prays Build me a son. Oh Lord, Who will be brave enough to know when he is weak And brave enough to face himself when he is afraid. One who will be proud and unbending in defeat But humble and gentle in victory. A son, whose wishbone will not be where his backbone should be; a son, who will know That to know himself is the foundation stone of all true knowledge. Rear him, I pray, not in the paths of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenges. Build me a son, whose heart will be clean, whose goal will be high. A son, who will master himself, before he seeks to master other men. One who will learn to laugh yet never forget how to weep. One who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past. And after all these are his, add I pray, enough of a sense of humor so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously; A touch of humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity of true greatness; The open mind of true wisdom; the meekness of true strength. Do this, Oh Lord, and then I, his father, will dare in the secret recesses of my own heart to whisper. “I have not lived in vain.” Leases The Will! The Will! We’ll hear the Will of ’41 We, the Class of ’41, possessed of sound mind and body, do hereby draw up our final will: We bequeath the following: To our Alma Mater—Our unfailing loyalty To our Teachers—Our sincere gratitude and appreciation for their encouragement through the years. We bequeath to the Juniors and their heirs forever: Our understanding and good will, and our place in Sister’s heart. To our treasured Sophomores: We bequeath our dignified and nonchalant manners. Also our music for their jam-sessions. To our precious Freshmen: Our most heartfelt sympathy, and our motto—“Always early for school!” Special bequests: Edo Fiocchi—his way with the ladies to Jerome Gillespie Caroline Bascelli—Her desk by the window to Marie Doerr Mary Raffaelli—her “million dollar” candy salesmanship to Rose Walsh Jack Hennessey—his build to “Porky” Wilson Dom Ippolito—his basketball ability to Joe Alexander Betty Gavigan—her histrionic ability to Alma May Hennessey Anne Nealis—her Irish eyes to Winnie Behl Rita Rancati—her voice to Gloria Giordano Mary Krebs—her typing ability to Alice Perri Anthony Cardarel—his genius at the piano to Anthony Pepper Jack Dalton—his tall stories to Pat Newton Leroy Risi—the family car to his brother George. Signed: RITA RANCATI FRANCIS PICCARDO Senior Year Religion is necessary for everyone, Solid Geometry is taken by some; Reports on Required Reading are sometimes late, For Hist’ry and Problems we can hardly wait! French and Physics and Stenography do we know! In Chemistry lab. we steer clear of CO! Physical Education do the boys enjoy, Typing and Music, these two our girls employ. April - - the Senior Play and then to Washington, Upon our return the Prom will be more fun; Then dawns the long-awaited Graduation Day, From that day hence will be little time for play. —Anthony J. Festa April We see the first smile of spring, Still too early for any birds to sing. Eyes acquainted with the winter scene Open with wonder at the sight of green. The yellow haze that wakes all meadows here. Moves the slow heart along the turning year. It brings to mind that day in June, Which for us will come all too soon. —Paul Ney Silver Screen of ’41 “Babes in Arms”....................Freshman Class “Friendly Neighbors” ..............Juniors “Strange Cargo” ...................Boys’ Pockets “A Little Bit of Heaven”...........Junior Prom “The Letter” ......................English Assignment “Pot O’ Gold” .....................Class Treasury “All Quiet on the Western Front”...Library Period “Let’s Make Music”.................2:15 P.
