IRISH VOLLEYBALL The 1986 volleyball season was one that was filled with hard work and determination. They beat state-rated teams which proved they could play with the best of them. The highlight of the season was when the girls placed second in the Galaxy Conference. They were also run- ners-up in sub-districts. Their final record was 11-9. Team members are from front left: Julie Kiekhaefer, Lizzie Weddle, Patty Liberty, Felicia Bachman, Trisha Kirkendall, Trish Frederick, Shelli Olberding, Angie Kiekhaefer, Anne Simon, Jennie Dixon, Tracy O’Grady, Coach Linda Kirkendall. Dierdre Slominski, Angie Helmick, Jackie McGinnis and Chris Knobbe. Look at that Irish concentration. In the Background is our Irish cheering section. 18

IRISH SHOW DETERMINATION The fighting Irish played tough all season. Howev- er, their determination did not yield any victories for the team. The season did end on a happy note. Four people were chosen for All-Conference: Steve Taft, Mike Knohbe, and Joe Kirkendall made the first team. Greg Slominski received Honorable Mention. It was a season of disappointment for the seniors, but one of ex- perience for the underclassmen.

GIRLS HAVE SPIKING SEASON Players chosen to All- Conference teams were Chris Knobbe, first team, and Angie Hel- mick, second team. Chris also went on to re- ceive Honorable Men- tion at state level. It proved to be a great sea- son for the Irishettes. BUMP, SET, SPIKE!! Irish starters keep their eye on the ball. 19
