Boys Reach New Heights The 1983-84 Boys Basketball team finished their season with a 12-7 record. In Galaxy action, the Irish were crowned Southern Division Champs, but they lost to Tecumseh in the championship game of the Northern-Southern tournament. The Irish were hot throughout Districts, winning it with flying colors, but they met up with a tough Filley team in Regionals who ended their hopes for going to State. Tom Olberding and Brian Hoy were named to first team All Conference and John Watton to second team. Brian Hoy also received an Honorable Mention in State for Class D-2. Under the coaching of Denise Kirkendall the girls showed their potential and were picked to be one of the three teams from SE Nebraska to go to State next season. Amy Majerus and Kristi Olberding were chosen first team “All Conference”, and Kristi Olberding went on to be awarded an Honorable Mention at the State level in Class D. “Wait just a minute. But as time went on. the weather improved just as the girls did. The mile-relay team broke the school record at the Peru Invitational where the girls placed second overall.
