After gaining a berth to the State Playoffs, the Irish lost in the first round to end their season with a 5-5 record. The Irish got off to a terrific start, but then injuries hurt the rest of their season. The Irish had eight named to All Confer- ence teams. John Dixon, Tom Olberding, and John Fischer made first team and Ken Schawang, Tony Frederick, Todd Scheitel, Brian Hoy and Tom Sells all made honorable mention. Tom Olberding was also awarded Honorable Men- tion in State. The 1983 SH Football team included, front row: Roy Majerus. (Manager), Roger Helmick, Steve Taft. Phil Scheitel, Joe Kirkendall. Brett Keller, Joe Dixon, Greg Slominski, Pat Knobbe, Mark Meinzer. Second row: Coach John Banks. Scott Smith, David Aitken, Brian Hoy. John Fischer, Kenny Schawang, John Watton, Todd Scheitel. Tom Olberding, Tony Frederick, Tom Sells, and Greg Liberty. Touchdown'', signals the ref as John Dixon crossed the line. Annette 9 Keithley, and Shannon Pierson. 7 4 During the 1983 Volleyball season the Lady Irish proved to be one of the top rated teams in Nebraska. At 4 the end of their season the Irish were ninth in the state. This year the Irish captured the Southern Galaxy crown and were runners-up in the Northern-Southern Galaxy tournament. In District action we bowed out in the championship game, taking home second place. Our final record was 12-6. Much better!! Players chosen to All Conference” teams were Amy Slominski and Theresa Knobbe. first team; and Amy Majerus. second team. Amy Slominski went on to receive an Honorable Mention at the State level. We'll lose three seniors this year, but the experience, pride, and goals of the underclassmen will surely take them on to better and higher things next year. Lady Irish Bounce Back Members of the 1983-84 Girls’ Basketball Team were, front row: Christine Delker. Gina Bippes, Kristi Olberding. Amy Majerus, and Theresa Knobbe. Back row: Kris Peniska. Shell Slominski, Janet Finck, Amy Pokorny. Angie Dixon, and Chris Knobbe. Amy Slominski wasn't present for the picture. The 1983-84 Girls’ Basketball team ended with a record of 10-5. Under the coaching of Denise Kirkendall the girls showed their potential and were picked to be one of the three teams from SE Nebraska to go to State next season. Amy Majerus and Kristi Olberding were chosen first team “All Conference”, and Kristi Olberding went on to be awarded an Honorable Mention at the State level in Class D. “Wait just a minute.
