About the second week of school the seniors welcomed us by treating us to lunch and a softball game. We participated in many sports related activities. The boys played in football, basketball and track. One freshman girl played all of the girl’s sports. We all helped in cheering on our friends and class members. We also took part in many special activities this year. Homecoming was the first special event. Christmas Formal and the dance was enlightening. The Activities Banquet was rewarding with some of our class lettering and some just honored for their hard work. We worked hard to earn money for future use by cake raffles, and serving various banquets. We also sponsored a freshman dance which was lots of fun. We feel that we have gained much experience as freshmen, and are excited about entering our sophomore year. 4 Above: The Freshman class officers are: President. Chris Knobbe; Vice-President. The biggest money-raisers for them were setting up the concession stands at Junior-High games, serv- ing at various banquets and popping popcorn at High School games. They also had their cake raffles and their days of cleaning Jug Brown Stadium. But, the highlight for them was the ordering of class rings. Various stones and backgrounds were cho- sen and the suspense built till they got them. Another addition to this class was a German foreign exchange student from Bonn. She stayed this school year with Matt Froeschl's home and learned a lot of American customs just as we learned many German customs. From all the work they put into this year - they proved they’ll be a great asset in their last two years at Sacred Heart. The skit for the Homecoming activities was £ take-off of the TV game show “Family Feud”. The bonfire was built on the practice field by the guys. During the Christmas season we raffled off a Cabbage Patch Kid, Kelli Clara, who was eventually adopted by NiNi Frederick. The Christmas Formal was decorat- ed by our class with red, green, and silver metallic streamers. Music was provided by a Disc Jockey from Hiawatha. “We May Never Pass This Way Again” was the theme for the Junior-Senior Prom. Bur- gundy and silver metallic streamers highlight- ed the dance floor. After dinner, Morsman Studios was in charge of taking pictures of the couples. Music was then played by the band SPLASH from Lincoln. NE. One of these things is the bond that is present among Sacred Heart class- mates. Together we experienced the joys, surprises, and sorrows of life. Gradually we got to know what made each other tick. The picture to the right is the senior group picture from our retreat in Leavenworth. Through this retreat we all grew very close to one another. The time spent by ourselves allowed us to think about our futures and where we would be in a year. But. the time spent as a group was very imporant, too. A very special part of the senior class will remain forever at Sacred Heart, making it hard to ever forget the class of 1984. 14 The Future Is Theirs Above: Brian Hoy was the Salutatorin, and Amy Slominski was the Valedictorian. •• •• SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS ” John W. History And Signatures In August of 1980, 15 Freshmen entered the doors of Sacred Heart for the first time. In our freshman year we were welcomed into high school by the senior class on Freshman-Senior Day. Seniors provided lunch for their little brother or sister and afterwards we all enjoyed a game of softball. Sister Mary Denise was our class sponsor who supervised and helped us that first year. Class officers were: Theresa Knobbe, President; Greg Goltz, Vice-President; Brian Hoy, Secretary; and John Watton, Treasurer. Through this leadership we took on activities such as providing the refreshments for the Christ- mas Formal. Our Sophomore year was filled with many more experiences and responsibili- ties. This year too. Sister Mary Denise was our class sponsor. Class officers were: Greg Goltz, President; Theresa Knobbe, Vice- President; Tony Frederick, Secretary; and Tom Olberding, Treasurer. This year, Byron Blackburn left us and John Fischer became part of our class. We took part in many fund-raising activities such as painting a house, picking up limbs, having cake raffles, concessions at auctions, and popping corn at home ball games. One big event that we looked forward to was ordering our class rings. Also many of us took part in the spring musical “Oliver”. We faced many new tasks our junior year. Mike Dishong joined our class this year. Under the supervision of Sister Carmen and Mr. Holland our class spon- sors, we earned a good sum of money. Class officers were: Greg Goltz, President; John Fischer, Vice-President; Amy Majerus, Secretary, and Tom Olberding, Treasurer. One task that we successfully fulfilled was the preparation of the bonfire and the skit for the Homecoming activities. We present- ed “Rocky III” for the skit. Next came Christmas Formal. Decorations included red, green, and silver streamers strung wall to wall in the gym. In May, Junior-Senior Prom was held at the Elks Club. Music was provided by SAVIOR FAIRE” from Lincoln. The meal was prepared by our mothers and Kevin Binder from Pawnee City took pictures. After the dance we all went to the drive-in where Raiders of the Lost Ark was being shown. The night ended with breakfast at Rob and Rhonda Roettger’s and also at Ta l 34 Of The Class Of 1984 Brian Hoy’s. Many of us attended County Govern- ment Day and displayed our talents in the musical Little Mary Sunshine . This year we have faced and completed many challenges brought onto us. As seniors we took pride in our school in many ways. Class officers for our final year were: Greg Goltz, President: Tony Frederick, Vice-President; Amy Majerus, Secretary: and Theresa Knobbe, Treasurer. Our class sponsor was Mrs. Kirkendall. In athletics we proved that even though we were small, we were mighty. In football the boys led the team to the State playoffs. John Dixon, John Fischer, and Tom Olberding were named to first team All Conference, and Kenny Schawang, Brian Hoy and Tony Frederick were awarded honorable mentions. In volleyball the girls were Southern Galaxy Champions and District runners-up. Theresa Knobbe and Amy Slominski were named to first team All-Conference and Amy Majerus to second team. Homecoming was very memorable to us. For a Homecoming car we used Hoy’s cleaning van and named it Loretta for Todd’s mom. Even though the weather and the van didn’t quite go as we would have liked them to, we all had a great time. At half-time of the Homecoming game Tony Frederick and Theresa Knobbe were crowned King and Queen. Tne other candidates were: Todd Scheitel, Ann Schuetz, Greg Goltz, Amy Majerus, John Fischer and Amy Slominski. Afterwards, we danced in the Teihen Gym to music provided by Kevin Smith. In basketball we again proved to be very successful. The boys won their Districts and made it to Regionals. They were also Galaxy runners-up. Tom Olberd- ing and Brian Hoy were named to All- Conference first team, and John Watton to second team. In the girl’s action, the team improved greatly. Amy Majerus was named to All-Conference first team. Todd Scheitel, Amy Majerus, John Dixon, Ann Schuetz, and Amy Slominski took leading roles in the production of “No, No, Nanette”, the school’s spring musical.
