Four boys qualified for the state meet, three as return perfor- mances. with Pat Oiberding bring- ing home a gold medal in the high jump. Many medals were brought home from the regular season meets, and a number of the team members earned a letter at the end of the season. Talent was equally distributed among the team members and throughout the various events showing much promise of an exciting and successful season again next year. Happiness Is: A Trip To State For the first time since 1974, the Sacred Heart boys' basketball team reached the state tournament. By defeating the Sterling Jets in D-1 regional action, the Irish earned a chance to go up against the Nelson Tigers. A special pep rally was held for the boys, and they were escorted out of town on their way to Lincoln by Mayor Dale Shaffer. Although the Irish fell to the Tigers in the opening round, 49-44, this was a very exciting experience for all involved. The support and enthusiasm shown by fans was very inspiring, and is a sure sign that It's Great to be Irish! ■ 26
