Silva Kevin James Smith All through school there is one goal that is common to all students: graduation. Twenty students reached this important goal together this year as they received their diplomas and became graduates of Sacred Heart High School. As one big happy family, they met the challenges of their final year of high school and prepared to face those of the future. Whatever the occasion - the first day of school. Homecoming, participating in the state basketball tournament, being together on retreat, or graduation itself - there was a special closeness felt between them. Many treasured memories of their time together at Sacred Heart will remain with them for years to come. Just as their school will always have a special place in their hearts, they will always be remembered at Sacred Heart. A special part of each of them will remain forever at Sacred Heart, making it very hard to forget the Class of '821 Winners of the annual KTNC Sports Awards were Steve Hoy. footbal. We had many activities to carry out, the first being the skit for Homecoming. Using our creative imaginations, we came up with our own version of the 1 soap opera General Hospital, which we titled Irish Hospital . We built the bonfire on the practice field. We used our artistic talents in December to decorate the gym for Christmas Formal. Money making projects this year included a grocery raffle, concessions at auctions, and numerous cake raffles. Our final job as juniors was the Junior-Senior Prom. We decorated the Elks Club using the theme Somewhere in the Night , and our parents prepared the meal. We treasure the memories of this past busy year and look forward with anticipation to our last year at Sacred Heart. 10 Class officers balanced the ups and downs of being a junior From top to bottom are President Danny Goltz. Sociable Sophomores The sophomore year is the money-making year, prepar- ing for the busy junior year. This year the sophomores came up with some original fund-raising activities. They painted Scheitel's house and picked up brush for Raphael Majerus. Of course they kept tradition with cake raffles, concessions at auctions, and popping popcorn at home basketball games. While people around the world were dedling with situations such as the threat of a neutron bomb, the appointment of the first female U.S. Supreme Court Justice, and the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar el-Sadat. these students were entering high school for the very first time. Throughout the year, the freshmen busied themselves in many activities. They participated in the various sports, cheered the teams on at games, provided refreshments at the Christmas Formal, and took part in the Spring Musical. In all they did, they showed much talent and enthusiasm, and they will certainly prove to be important assets to Sacred Heart High School. t Above: Gina enthuslasticaly prepares herself for the ride home after a long day at a track meet At right: Mark shows that everyone likes posing for pictures once m a while. Only 16 students made up the two grades, which were taught by Sister Joan Williams. Though small in number, these young Irishmen and women played active rolls in sports, and also contributed greatly to both the band and chorus. Many participated in this year's musical, The Music Man. Something new to the Junior High this year was the addition of the sixth grade girls to the Pep Club. This was due to the small number of girls, and they helped greatly to add much support to the teams Through their participation in so many activities this past year, both grades have gained valu- able experience that will aid them greatly in their upcoming years at Sacred Heart. 17 Irish Candids 7' A typical lunch hour - spent visiting with friends Ahhhl No. John, this isn't the doctor's Scott and John prepare to enjoy the ride home in the office!! most popular way - to the tunes of a cassette recorder. A special pep rally was held for the boys, and they were escorted out of town on their way to Lincoln by Mayor Dale Shaffer. Although the Irish fell to the Tigers in the opening round, 49-44, this was a very exciting experience for all involved. Amy Slominski and Lisa Keller The Irish girls' Pep Club had a busy season of cheering the football and basketball teams on to many victories during the 1981-82 school year Because of a smaller student enrollment, the squads were cut in number to: varsity to five, and junior varsity to three. To raise money to finance their many activities, the members collected aluminum cans, held cake raffles, and also raffled an afghan at the annual Fish Fry. The high point of the year was cheering the boys basketball team on their way to the 1982 State Basketball Tournament. This was an experience that we will remember for many years to come. It's certainly inspiring to Sacred Heart students as they walk slowly through the dimly lit church holding their candles, forming a rosary. This is a beautiful scene as they witness this living proof of faith. This year's rosary was held on Sunday, December 20.
