Homecoming Tops Off Football Season When November 1, All Saints Day, arrived. Sacred Heart was already fired up for the Homecoming game against Nebraska City Lourdes Knights. Enthusiasm for the day built up the days before Homecoming during Spirit Week. On Halloween night, the juniors presented a homecoming play at the pep rally which was followed by the lighting of the bonfire on the practice field. It roared with sparks and smoke displaying the firey Irish determination to win. Finally, this all mounted to an Irish win with a score of 6-0, and the crowning of Doug Goltz and Joyce Stratton as king and queen. During the Irish pep rally, the Homecoming bonfire was lit into a burst of flames and sparks as the Nebraska City Lourdes football dummy burned away. The Irish were unstoppable as they plowed through the Lourdes' defense. At the pep rally, the juniors presented their version of the T.V. series Fantasy Island as a homecoming skit. 30

SH Sparkles in “Diamond Studs Music students at Sacred Heart displayed their acting abilities as they presented the musical Diamond Studs. The musical was based on the life of Jesse James, the outlaw, and his notorious gang. Under the leadership of Theresa Lesiak the musical drew great reviews and was billed a success. In the pictures, starting at the upper left and going clockwise; Aunt Zerelda (Jeff Oliver) and Pappy (Pat Olberding) boogie to the music in These Southern States that I love. ; Wicher (Chris Rathman) staggers after a deadly shot by )esse (Doug Goltz); Belle Starr (Kathy Nichols) shows Cole (Jeff Oliver) that she doesn’t Need a Man to Know She's Good. ; Jim Younger (Steve Frocschl), Frank James (Don Strecker) and Bob Younger (David Kopetzky) sing with the rest of the cast in Jesse James Robbed this Train.

) Christmas Formal Heats up the Chill The evening of December 14 started out with the saying of the Apostles' Creed by Doug Goltz, senior class president. One by one, the students went up to say their prayers before the altar as the Living Rosary progressed. At the special mass, the Holy Family was portrayed by Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Goltz and Little Timothy Fischer. After the last prayer, students and parents filed out fo the church and into Tiehen Gym for the Christmas Formal. Way before the Formal date, the juniors of Sacred Heart decorated the gym as pictured bottom left. With this backdrop parents and students danced to the first tunes conducted by disco whiz Keith Marx as seen top left and bottom right. Of course a hot dance needs cooling, so the refreshment department was assigned to the freshmen. On top left, freshmen Greg Goltz, Brian Hoy and Tom Olberding show that not all is work without play. 31
