Each year, the questions of Who gets to run what? and What shall we stick the freshmen with? are asked and solved because of the loss of the previous seniors and the addition of the new freshmen. This year, those were not the only changes in our budding track stars' careers. The distances of the races were universally changed from the American yard to the metric system. Those who were used to 440 yards or less in a race now had to run a little further, and those who were long-distance runners got to rest sooner. Coaches Ford and Uher guided our teams through these changes once again, with their trusty stopwatches.

1979-80 Activities Banquet All of Sacred Heart's students work and toil for running, shooting and thinking were rewarded on May 4 as the annual Sacred Heart activities banquet was held. During the ceremonies Don Coupe acted as master of ceremonies and the awards, well deserved by the students, were given out by Sister Mary Hilaria for academic awards and coaches Linda Uher and Lonnie Ford for athletics awards. A total of thirty-five students received sport letters. Also the KTNC awards were given to Kirby Oliver for football, Mike Olberding for basketball, Mike Finck and Bob Stratton for track, Debbie Nichols for volleyball, Dottie Hill for basketball, and Natalie Eickhoff for track. Along with this list were a number of academic awards. Tim Kean earned the Bausch and Lomb science award for the highest average in three years of science study. Also, Tim placed second among the boys for the Elk's Most Valuable Students contest and Karen Marx ranked forth among the girls. After all cherished their awards, they were given an after dinner speech by Mary Higgins, Creighton University Women's Athletic Director. The speech concluded excellently and students, with their parents, left content and were proud that they were recognized for their achievements and talents. Starting from top left and going clockwise: Tim Kean receiving one of his many awards from Sister Mary Hilaria; Mike Olberding receiving his athletic award from coach Lonnie Ford; Mary Coupe receiving her Gold Key Award for the Scholastic Magazine state art contest; and Jon McQueen receiving his athletic award from coach Ford.
